For African: 1 Giant Leap
They do a lot of stuff with concious artists like Michael Stipe, Speech and Michael Franti and on the album that I have (self titled) every track is featuring someone. If you don't find any African vocals there to fit your tastes I'm sure you could by looking up some of the African artists that are featured. For Middle Eastern: Talvin Singh He produces/co. produces a lot of different genres mostly with a middle eastern feel, quite often with vocals. Also for some really good tracks with a "world music" feel check out the Lonely Planet soundtrack. They have some really cool tracks featuring samples of "ethnic" (for lack of a better word) music. If you want to listen to any tracks gimme a shout on MSN. |

Anything Banco de Gaia.
Anything from Six Degrees Records. A fair amount from Quango Records. And, as cheesy as it is to do so, I must repeat: Anything Banco de Gaia!!! Toby Marks (the man behind Banco de Gaia) is amazing. I mean it! I rarely ever go off on producers but this man's stuff is leagues above so much out there. He is so often criminally overlooked. To put it bluntly, if The Chemical Brothers were AC/DC and The Prodigy were The Sex Pistols, then Banco de Gaia is Pink Floyd. Look, just do yourself a favor. Pick up the album Ten Years and if you are not an instant fan, I'll, um, eat my own food. :) Last edited by Sykonee; Apr 12, 04 at 12:39 AM. |

Dead Can Dance does a lot of stuff with female Middle Eastern Sounding Vocals (not sure what language). But they also have some tracks with this dude who sings in English and has a really creepy voice so you will probably have to pick and choose tracks.
Their music really reminds me of Act 2 in Diablo 2, the desert world heh. |
