The new artist album from Airwave is finally released. This release is a re-release of the album that was released in 2002, then called "Believe". Now, in 2004, Airwave hits back with a re-release of the first cd and an extra new cd with some older tracks and new unreleased tracks. Back in 2002 the album scored great marks for reviews and was well-received, but due the lack of promotion and a decent distribution, many people did not get the chance to actually buy it. With this release, distributed by N.E.W.S. is now in (web)stores so should be available for pick-up soon.

Airwave is the Belgian producer and DJ Laurent Véronnez. U might know him from other aliases like The Green Martian, Lolo, Cape Town, 50% of Fire & Ice, 50% of Planisphere and way more. The latest years he gained recognition with his superb productions in the melodic/prog genre and also he's getting more and more gigs over the world to perform. Airwave has always been one of his most famous and important projects this far. Therefore he took that alias for his real first artist album, which is re-released now, of which 100 are in limited DVD boxes with two cd's.

CD 1
This disc is the same as the in 2002 release album "Believe". On the first disc you can hear Airwave's newest single Ladyblue, which is in stores now in four different mixes. Luckily the Original Beat Mix has remained, because it's one of the best Airwave tracks ever. Or check out the classic Save Me, which was one of the biggest selling Airwave tracks ever. Furthermore are worth mentioning When Things Go Wrong, a fantastic piece of melodramatic trance. Proggier tracks like Musings Of A Lifetime and Devotion are nice intermezzo's between the big anthems. Furthermore Alone In The Dark and Innerspace are two big classics that make this first disc an extremely good one. Read the trance.nu review of the first release for all the information about "Believe" you always wanted.

CD 2
In the review of the first release "Believe" the conclusion stated "a negative point is that that slamming masterpieces like Escape From Nowhere and Venus Of My Dreams have not been included on this album". And look what happened with this re-release; those tracks have been included. We'll go through the tracks one by one.

1. God Surrounds Us
I meant that this track is somewhat older, but I'm not sure about it as I thought it might have been released under the L-vee guise. This is an epical chill-out track with a sort of Enigma feel to it. Very deep and mysterious soundings, a slow bass and deep "voices"-like sounds make this quite a special, anthemic chill-out track. The end of the track is the best part, when Airwave introduces a melodyline giving the track some extra cachet.

2. Space Divas
The start of this track sounds like a movie-opening. Some lines of text are sproken and a majestuous sound whelms over as a true Hollywood blockbuster. But nothing cheesy here, it sounds extremely trancy and the transition is very nice. It won't take long before a firm breakbeat kicks in. This breakbeat is surrounded by a load of FX's, floating sounds and lift-off effect. Quality breakbeat trance.

3. I Want To Believe (Original Mix)
The very first Airwave track. Quite an upbeat trancer with a repetitive, hypnotising melody that build's it way slowly upfront from the start. Also Airwave's love for "phat kicks" is clearly hearable in this track. In the breakdown the melodyline is introduced. Personally I like this version better then the remix featured on disc 1, because it's such a raw edged track.

4. Lightspeed
Another classic track released already a couple of years ago. This is a slow dreamy track with a phat kick and an awesome melodyline that's also slowly arises during the track. The great thing about this track is the build-up. The dark underground feel is enhanced by a spacey electro-effect that's inserted throughout the track and truly blows you away on moments when you don't expect. After the first breakdown the melody rises again building up to a second breakdown, which is the highlight of the track. The melody makes a subtle twist and the track truly explodes. This is not a flashy smooth trancetrack, but a punchy, rought phat trancetrack. Great.

5. Boredom
More new material from L-vee. And what a great new track, a phat kick, dark sounds and a killermelody line. It bang's from the start and keeps rolling like a train till the third minute breakdown. Here the melody is slightly changed and the kick introduces the second section of the track, where the full, simple but killer, melody takes over. An emotional yet banging affair, of which we demand a vinyl release!

6. Run (Dub Mix)
This is a new track. starting off quite relaxed with a solid bassline and a beautiful piano melody that leads us to a breakdown. People that know the track Sasha & Maria - Be As One, can compare that in some way. Then the piano melody fades away and a beautiful little melody takes over. This is my favourite new track of this album, I can already say that. A fresh, sparkling feel-good track with nice build-ups and breakdowns. At the end the piano makes a quick re-appearance, ending this gorgeous dreamy track (which is not really full version as it fades away, too bad).

7. Escape From Nowhere
Another great classic as featured on Magik Six by Tiësto (Laurent was present with three tracks on that cd). A deep trancetrack with an exceptional and highly recognizable bassline. Highlight is the killer mysterious break, where Laurent managed to make dolphin sounds fitting in exactly in the track. Combine nature sounds and trancemusic and the result is a killer track. As the track goes further, the intensity of the sounds rises slowly, where after the track slowly builds down leaving us just the sound of the singing dolphins..

8. Seattle Calling (feat. The Pedestrian)
On this track Laurent works together with Caesar Filori aka the Pedestrian, a guy from the US involved in pop-rock bands and I guess he is the one playing the beautiful guitar melody. Around this melody the whole track is constructed with sweeping sounds and trancy riffs. Nice and long version too!

9. Venus Of My Dreams
An old Airwave track, which was the B-side of the first release. I actually like this much better, a dreamy melody with long minimalistic breakdowns. Alltogether it sounds very emotional and deep and especially back in the end-nineties it sounded way beyond it's time. Even now in 2004 it's cleaner and fresher then most new tracks today.

10. The Division Bell
One of Airwave's older tracks. Has a slight resemblance with Above The Sky, but misses the strong melodyhook. The melody is quite nice, but sounds somewhat dated nowadays. Also the fact that the track explodes just after five minutes, and the previous minutes not too much exciting is happening, makes this my least favourite track of this second disc.

11. Last Flight To Gaia
Funky trance track with a very catchy melody loop. The BPM is quite high for an Airwave track. In the breakdown all sounds are like played in slow-motion, which gives it a strange sound, just like time has stopped for a minute. Then the track pitches back up again and lifts off totally. Very nice, kinda strange track, with a funky touch.

Conclusion
The first release already was worth it's money and now even two cd's are here full of fantastic stuff. Every track is or a classic or a new trancebomb. I think this second disc is just as strong as the first one, especially the new track Run is extremely impressive. Airwave is one of the true trance-artists in the scene, and you've hardly been closer to a trance experience then with this album. It's still available at the Bonzai site.

Thanks for the play-by-play on the tracks.
It's definantly a good album.

Do you get Airbase and Airwave mixed up? ;)
