Sennheiser HD 280 Headphones
My Sennheiser HD 280 Pro headphones are cracking. :292: I know several people here have them. Wondering if anyone else has this problem with their 280's. There was a thread several months ago about headphones, but I can't find it any more.
I've had the HD 280's for about 7 months and after 2 months they were cracking quite a bit at the ends of the main headband piece as shown in the image. They weren't falling apart but it looked like it was just a matter of time before the main band actually broke. They have a 2 year warranty so I got them fixed free by Sennheiser Canada which is in Quebec. I bought the phones in the USA but Senn Canada had no problem fixing them under warranty. They seemed solid when I got them back 2 months ago, but now I see they are again cracking at the same places. It's kind of a nuisance and I'm surprised considering it's "pro" gear. I know some Sony phones have a similar problem. I'm very careful with these and use them about 10 hours a week (but sometimes 10 hours a day going crazy on a mix). Aside from the cracking, these are good headphones, designed to be used for studio monitoring and DJing, flat response, but not artificially bass-heavy like some Sony DJ headphones. http://www.sennheiser.com/sennheiser...nsf/root/04974 - HD 280 specs http://www.sennheiser.ca - Sennheiser Canada |

I have them set up for my average-size head and could loosen/extend them a little, but then they slide downwards. I usually store them so there is no stress on the headband.
Since some of you guys have experienced this problem it sounds like a design defect and maybe Senn will produce some better parts eventually and fix the problem (the plastic is too thin or weak). Otherwise - it means these will be toast soon after the warranty is up (or I guess I could try to make my own headband or pay them for after-warranty repairs). You want to play - you got to pay. :184: |

not trying to start a headphone debate, but senns are better than sony's in terms of sound quality and sound isolation
i like how the sony's swivel though.. you can bend em in almost any direction which is really cool! the senns swivel a bit too but not as much as the sony's i think the perfect headphones would be a combination of the senn's sound quality, isolation, and comfort along with sony's construction and look |
