Good New Non-Electronic Music

By "non-electronic" I mean play in a band... could be anything from folk to metal, from reggae to punk.

I'm pretty up to date on hip-hop so no need to list all the good new hip-hop.

I'm looking for some good new bands or some recent bands that are worth checking out.

A couple that I have discovered, although they may not exactly be recent are Modest Mouse and John Butler Trio. If you haven't heard anything from these 2 and are still into music made with instruments; they're definitely worth a listen.

Any suggestions?

Chevelle is one of the only newer bands i actually like.

Their first and second album are really good , the new one is coming out in a month and is supposed to be even better.

I know enough people will recommend Hiphop , so I'll switch gears.

Great Irish singer, Damien Rice ( not new, I saw him on the Tom Green show first time i ever heard about him ) . Download "The Blowers Daughter" , and I guarantee you'll be shocked.

Some say hip-hop is electronic and others don't... either way I said that I'm pretty up to date on hip-hop so no need to list it in this thread.

I'd be glad to contribute to another thread looking for new hip-hop though.

for punk stuff.. dig up any old ( and recent i suppose) BAD BRAINS if you haven't ever rocked a Brains album, And maybe something from THE EX - Dutch artpunk that still consistently kicks ass 20+ years later - still releasing records that don't suck, unlike ALL OTHER bands of old.. (except maybe THE FALL). Boh!

THE EX.

Also XIU XIU is a good band as of late, - noizy, minimal, sparse, and very lo-fi Joy Division sounds, in a good way, and not at all sub-par, cliche Division ripoff shit either. Got it?

FAKECOPS from Calgary are pretty good, the most un-prarie sounding band coming outta Cowtown about now - think really good Discord Recs stuff, Nation of Ulysses/Make-UP, CIRCUS LUPUS, etc. and rythmic hardcore National Acrobat styles. Rythmic pulsating punk rock. GOOD GOOD!!

shift is on a distinguished road
I've been into a band called Do Make Say Think lately... they are sort of melodic instrumental rock, but more different than. Good stuff.
