yeah there are many other az well...
I agree with your 'short' list with the exception of Busta.
Remember when Snoop Dogg rapped about a 40 oz. & a dub sac??? LOL!!! look at him now... He's a multi-millionaire,,, and is still somewhat tight,,, simply because he is SNOOP DOGGY DOGG. Nothing can change what he and Dre did for rap muzic. I used 2 love his muzic because I could relate to it with things that were going on in my every day life. Honestly,,, I can't feel his muzic anymore. All this and that about million dollar homes and 100 of hoes in diffrent area codes. He just raps about SNOOP WORLD,,, and think has forgotten what made him successful.... AND THAT WAZ KEEPIN' IT REAL. lol I think that Dre and Wu-tang have remained close to the level that they once were. I can't even begin 2 imagine where rap muzic would be if 2Pac and to a lesser extent Biggie,,, would be today if they were both still alive. Many other artists that were once tight have fallen off>>> really hard. A perfect example of this would be E-40. Don't get me wrong... I've still got luv for 40-Water,,, it's just that his first 2 albums were slumpin'!!! Ever since,,, his album have had maybe 1 or 2 songz that come close 2 his earlier work. I dunno,,, maybe he forgot what made him successful az well? Anywayz... I could go on about this ish all night. Here's my list of folks that made rap muzic awesome in the early/mid. 90's. N.W.A. Ice Cube Bone-Thugs&Harmony Mac Dre Dubee AKA 'Sugawolf' Mac Mall Khayree Ray Luv E-40 Celly Cell Too $hort Ant Banks Spice 1 Young Lay 2 Live Crew Redman Method Man Do or Die The Ghetto Boyz Scarface Twista Eazy E Jay Z DPG Nate Dogg MC Eiht Nas there are many others that I can't think of right now :375: Also,,, as much as I think they've hurt the rap game... Master P and Ca$h Money were good at one point. However,,, all the rappin' about Bentleys,,, Cristal and Platinum have turned rap into more of a fantasy as opposed to the raw muzic the you could really feel/relate 2 :378: Sadly,,, I don't think rap will ever be az tight az in once waz. peace! |

24K, I'll have to agree with you on all counts except this:
Canadian Hip Hop has been completely the opposite. Our artists have been on a huge upswing since "Northern Touch" came out. I think that hip hop in general is following the Canadian upswing. Not so much in terms of profitability, but definitely in terms of the quality of the music. I must say, I like what I am hearing now. -Dwight:Somatic: |

its cuz of that canadian artists now are getting good. but back in the day, i dont think i even remember 1 good canadian artist. prove me wrong. but after the whole 2pac phase, i think canada realized rap was cool. maybe we were still in the phase of ice hockey and igloos and our country music or sumthin.

it sucks that swollen members are being played so much on Z95 because that will kill those songs. but it gives them shit loads of exposure!! GO CANADA! :Peenutt: |

i always found the whole 94-98 era of hip hop a little to 'blingin' for me.
but it did spawn some good stuff, dj shadow/buck65/blackstar/common/roots, started the return of some of the older artists... launched some really cool labels (anticon)... but i think currently a lot of interesting things are happening, hip hop is in a good state of change... you're seeing a lot of interesting collabs and the production just keeps getting tighter. there seems to more of an open forum now for all kinds of hip hop, from the concious to the experimental to the blingin. as for canadian hip hop.. the stuff cardinal is putting out lately is just fucking nuts. r. What???

Because of that, Canadian Hip Hoppers had to do the indie route. I guess the group that sticks out most in my mind is MAIN SOURCE. A lot of cats out East were really feeling their shit and don't quote me on this, but, I think they had some kind of record deal in NYC. Because of this, they came out with "Live At The BBQ," in which two prominent NY rappers got their start. Who are these two artists, you say??? Akinele and Nas. There is a lot of other Main Source shit, but in the interest of laziness, I will juss tell you to download anything Main Source. You won't be disapointed. As for others, Maestro Fresh Wes, Michie Mee, MC Shan, Thrust and Dream Warriors come to mind. Aside From Wes, Dream Warriors has had the biggest impact on the Canadian Hip Hop scene. "My Definition" was their first single and served to give Canadians some insight into what Hip Hop means......... to Canadians. I must admit, the Warriors' lead vocalist King Lu's delivery was never all that good. However, the message was always there. Positive is the key here. And Luv's beats were(and still are) always good. Their shit became better as they went along. It became even better lyrically when Spek came aboard. I think that "Day In, Day Out" is one of the best Warrior tracks simply because of Spek's presence. And, if it wasn't for the Warriors, we would not have our friend Tom Green around. His big break was when King Lu's protoges came out with "Check The O.R." Yes, Tom Green was the lead vocalist of "Organized Rhyme." For this and many other reasons, Dream Warriors are on of the greatest Hip Hop groups ever. EVER. -Dwight:Somatic: |

When they were good, they were good. When they sucked, THEY SUCKED. My point is that they always had something good to offer the Canadian Hip Hop scene. And yes, SPEK ROCKS. I applauded his decision to leave The Warriors to make Bhangra, but I was choked to see him leave. And I was choked that Lu always found it necesary to have the spotlight. I love Lu for what he has done BUT, he is nowhere close to Spek talentwise. Bhangra has gained a great talent at Hip Hop's expense. -Dwight:Somatic: |
