I've heard No-Step Ambientcore is all the rage at the moment.
However, I think most of the kiddies here are diggin' their Dutch Trance, so check out any set from Tiestin van Corstenfold. Personally, I'm diggin' EDM, and all of its various styles. |

drum&bass well take over soon enough. just wait for it. Then maybe i'll get to see concord dawn, elhornet from pendulum, BSE, or dj/producers along those lines. Total science at spooky is a step in the right direction :) In my opinion Breaks and trance are pretty huge in this town. A lot of people are into good hip hop around here as well...there is definately some musically diverse people in this city and on this board...

I was being serious. Typing 'Tiestin van Corstenfold' is just simpler than typing all five of their names (they all play the same thing anyways).
However, if you want to check out some really killer music, start digging around for electroclash/disco punk stuff from Tiga, Felix da Housecat, Miss Kitten & The Hacker, Vitalic, FPU, Erol Alkan, Black Strobe, DFA, Playgroup, Turbo Recordings, International Deejay Gigilos, and such ilk..... and I guess John B as well (for the jungle kick). |

Breakbeats have become a mainstay in EDM culture now. You're seeing everyone and their dog throwing down some sort of breakbeats in their set (aside from the faster tempo'd stuff). You'll see the big huge cheese trance guys rocking really well done breaks, you'll see the house guys throwing in breaks. A lot of the house/disco house djs from the past are now full on breaks djs. It's not just here in Vancouver it's all over the world. Now I'm being pretty broad when I say breakbeats. I'm not just talking one style at all because now a days there's so many sub genre's within breaks as a whole.
Now I can't be so bold to say it's taking over, but all I am trying to say is it's not going anywhere fast. Check out our website, we're local vancouver producers doing the breaks thing. Our stuff generally has a harder feel too it, but there's some very techy proggy stuff too. http://www.sickbeats.ca ez, jase. |
