DJ's: worst set you ever fucking bombed

okay i've played a few raves.... i'll give anyone $5 for every rave flyer they find with my name on it... yeah dude, i'm that underground!

A two time production company threw a party @ here on earth, a small cafe on E. Hastings St. Not too long ago. The promoters even had a few kegs at the party and all the dj's were taken care of. I got to the party about 1am. dj's like bias, droid, frame, kenya, and g-rock were inside the place. My set was not until 5am so I had plenty of time before my set. Deejay's were allowed to drink for free and that equaled trouble for me.

I stumbled onto the decks about 5:30am. (Whoever was spinning before me must have loved the extended play time). I got on the decks and train wrecked every fucking mix -- I only played 5 tracks! the party was busted during dillinja's grimey as i was in the middle of the mix-up.

The morning after I woke up, checked on my records, and found all 5 records (played hours earlier in front of a couple dozen people) shoved into 1 record sleve that was torn to shit for obvious reasons.

It's a good thing no one remembers that. phewf!

At this house party in white rock i had had 9 beers before the party.. showed up and was drinking jack straight outta the bottle..was a little shotty at first, then started picking up, layed down a bunch of good mixes, then since i was used to battle style turntables, i rested my palm on the corner which had the stop button cuz of the different posistion, so fucked up my mix, then did it 2 more times one after another, by that time i was so shit faced i didn't care anyway.. it wasen't a "serious" set anyways, otherwise i wouldn't have gotten shitfaced haha...just havin fun...

i think the worst set i ever bombed was the one i didnt play... at apex this year. hahahha did some e, smoked too much weed, drank too much liquor.. i was gone by 3 and woke up at 8:30, well past the end of my set time. hahahaha

but from the ones i did play.... chills 2 comes to mind.... now luckily i didnt trainwreck once.... actually every mix was probably pretty tite i guess but damn i was HAMMERED. i think by that point i drank 8-10 beers, smoked copious amounts of weed and damn.... i remember getting on the decks thinking... shiiiiet i have never spun this fucked up in my life... and it had to happen in front of all these people.

but i guess it went alright. i was feelin the love but i guess i walked away from that set disapointed not being able to do what i really wanted to do.

sounds almost exactly like my Soundwave '03 experience. why would the slot an old man like me at 6:30 am anyways???

the worst set i ever played though was in victoria, around '96, opening for a Ninja Tune tour. my buddy who was promoting the show got all pissy with me before my set, because i'd smoked weed (on the tour bus w/ T Power & Vadim, like i was gonna pass that up) which apparently he thought would have a negative effect on my set. Rediculous, as i was a total chronic at the time and never played records without smoking. Anyways, this resulted in me being so flustered at his ass-hole-ness that i couldn't concentrate and dropped just about every mix. SUCK!! :233:

New Year's 2001 for sure

We were all at a house party... got all shit around 1 or 2, so someone came up with the bright idea of going to a buddy's loft and bringing ALL my gear... being a bit out of mind I agreed. Getting there I didn't want to play, but a couple people were all like "Well Rich will be here any minute so you won't be playing long"... 30 mins go by, 45 mins go by... meanwhile I'm pretty trashed... an hour goes by... finally after around 90mins and its 5am and way too much tequila we find out he's been trying to buzz in for over an hour but some idiot was on the phone

Tequila + ____ + Champagne + Turntables = badtimes

I have trouble remembering a single set at viva where I wasn't fucking hammered. I got so good at it that I would have more trouble standing up than actually mixing.

That said, I had my fair share of bad sets due to complete drukenness =P It was usually the nights when a hockey game would be on and I'd be drunk by 7pm. Head to the bar at 10pm and do nothing but drink for the first 2 hours for free... yeah, pain.

The few sets I've played in Montreal have all been at afterhours and not until 4-5am, so any drinking I've done is already long out of my system. Amazing how easy it is to mix sober =P

probably capital punishment for me. it was one of my first parties playing out, and i was so damned nervous.
i tried to do a blend with vanilla ice and planet rock...but i hadnt really mastered mixing with the pitch control yet and i royally fucked it up.
