Spilt Milk dj soo these guys have all put out mix cds in the past year that blew my head off. Not sure if this thread is about top local mixes or favorite locals (which has been killed on this forum).... but as far as fav local mix tapes go heres my list.....
Mat The Alien - if you have any of Mat's mixes you know. The most insane DnB & Hip Hop. Vinyl Ritchie - His "Rock'em Sock'em" mix that Spy Eyewear put out of his is soooo good. The king of the mash up mixes. DJ Wood - Not sucking up to the boss on this one.... he's got some top DnB mixes out and his latest Dancehall, Hip Hop & Mash Up CD is HOT! Spence (aka DJ Slim) - The breakbeat mix tape king. Back in 96' he dropped a seminal mix tape called "Hot Shit" that sold over like 1000 copies (I think it was more).... then he dropped the first Nu Skool breaks mix tape in Vancouver "Garbonzo Beats" in 99'.... and last year he did his first mix CD "Deeper then Dark". His mixes are mixed flawlessly in one shot... no edits....the only edits he's done are on the cuts of "Deeper then Dark".... the other mixed tapes were one shot scratching. 10 years plus in the scene and still considered the best breaks DJ in Canada. DJ Hubbz - Hands down my favorite mixes are from Hubbz. He's got the most eklektic mixes out there.... soul, funk, rare groove, hip hop, funky breaks.... all mixed perfectly. Check out any of his mixed CDs.... "Juiced vol 1 & 2" and "Shake & Break".... actually if you catch him playing out (he plays twice a month at Vivid Sessions) ask him for a mixed CD... he always has them on him.
