If your just starting out into music production, don't even think about Protools, and I wouldn't bother with Cubase either unless you have a pro soundcard and a really fast system.
Both Reason and Fruityloops are really good programs for learning on. They're everywhere on the filesharing networks. |

ive been produceing for quite some time , im just l;ooking for these programs because my comp had to be reboioted and i lost everything on it, and i got the discs off buddies that dont have em anymore either! - as for paying for them tyfoon, you must be a broke ass if you cant find hook up for anything, sux to be you

Yeah, us "broke ass" people who pay for software are so broke cause the cost of the software gets inflated to offset the losses from piracy. Using a version of a program which is no longer current or supported by the manufacturer without paying is one thing, but if you are going to be using the latest and greatest, why not support the many music enthusiasts who work for these software companies who are just trying to earn a living.
Anyways I am all for open source, but I can see both sides of the coin. Just my opinion |

All electronically composed music is based on plagerizm the sounds are just tweaked to the tits to produce a different sound than the original So why not pirate this shit too!?!? |

OK I've been working with all these programs for a long time now. First you can crack any program if you know what you are doing. All my recording/producing software is legit now but there absolutly no difference between my old cracked stuff and the stuff I bought other than I have wicked tech support now for anytime I have a hiccup from a peice of software.

I wouldn't even bother trying to pirate protools.
For those who do steal audio software, there are some good torrent sites out there. However, use the cracked versions as trials. If you actually make something worth releasing with stolen software and you release it... yer a fuckwit :) There are open source sequencers, virtual instruments and plugins available for those who want them. Most notable is SIR, the low latency free impulse reverb plugin which can run Waves IR-1 impulses. Hot shit. PC only though. |

I've used cracked versions of Logic Audio for years, along with maaaaaany other audio softwares.
I just *bought* Ableton Live 4, after using a crack for three months. How much is that saying, exactly? The last software that I paid for was OS/2 v2.1, in 1995. Ten years of using nothing but free (Linux) or pirated software, and I feel Ableton Live is good enough that they deserve to get paid for it. If you're looking to make music, look around and figure out what software is best for the way *you* work... but do yourself a favour and make sure that Ableton Live is in your list of softwares to try out. |
