low-price Apple iPod MP3 player announced

They just came out with this non-hard drive iPod today, $129 Cdn for the 512 Mb version.

Exactly what my friend is looking for. Well almost, no FM tuner. He wants a player that is strong enough to use while on the bike or running. I'll be test driving this one fer sure.

Also they came out with a low-priced Mac mini, no monitor, $629. Not much more cost than a low-end Windows PC.

Get a Creative Muvo TX 512 instead.

Just as small and easier to use AND has a display screen

MC - how is the sound on that Creative player? My friend was looking at them too, they get good ratings & have versions with FM tuner.

He had a Pansonic but it was not so good & he returned it.

Get a minidisc player instead. You can still firewire all of your mp3s onto it, except you can use it to record audio from any other source as well.

MP3 players are crap.

the point of the ipod shuffle is that because it's not a hard drive player (like the ipod or ipod mini) it's skip proof...hello best new snowboarding buddy!!!!

if you don't already have an mp3 player then, don't buy this, but a mini instead.......this one doesn't let you pick tunes, it shiffles them everytime, so if you want to listen to a song you probably have to skip through half your playlist to find it.....still a neat little gizmo though.....

i don't think that's true, but i agree the mini is better anyway.

"iPod shuffle makes syncing a piece of cake. Use the optional Dock to connect to your computer or just plug iPod shuffle directly into a USB port on any computer(3). Then drag and drop individual songs, Autofill your favourite playlists or Autofill your iPod shuffle with a random sampling from your music library. Since iPod shuffle automatically charges while syncing, it stays ready for your next adventure."

"Welcome to a life less orderly. As official soundtrack to the random revolution, the Shuffle Songs setting takes you on a unique journey through your music collection — you never know what’s around the next tune. Meet your new ride. More roadster than Rolls, iPod shuffle rejects routine by serving up your favourite songs in a different order every time."

yeah, i saw that too. i think its optional, they are trying to ephasize the new feature. there is a button on the device that says, "play in order" and it specifically says that you can put playlists or individual songs on. anyway, neat.

Sound is pretty good and much better with good headphones.

I used Bang & Olufsen A8's and the sound was great.

I'm thinking of getting one myself as I don't want to carry my Treo around for mp3 playback.

well i already have two ipods one second generation and a new 20GB one...but i'm scared to take it anywhere cause they'r so expensive and if i lost it or broke it i'd kill myself. so i'm glad apple came out with a smaller one...i think i'll pick one up for hitting the slopes. :D

next thing apple needs to do is made a waterproof one you could swim with..
