Studio monitors for djing?
Just wondering what everyone's thoughts where on using studio monitors for djing. I've heard that they generally have a very flat sound and such, which might not be very good for dj mixing. I don't know. If anyone has such a setup let me know what you think.
Also if anyone who use them could recomend some that are priced around $600 for the pair. And if you had any horror stories from any brand that would be cool too Currently i'm looking into getting the Behringer TRUTH 2031A's or Event TR6's :y: cheers |

Studio monitors are great for djing on.... but not totally nessassary. Decent quality consumer gear can work fine if your just playing records. Get a pair for sure though if you write tracks.... the quality of your stuff will jump waay up instantly. It's amazing how much of a difference clear sound makes :)

Get your self a Yorkvile E160P, or NX250P. They sound ok,,, but that's not why I suggest it. It is a good idea to get use to a the speaker you may end up being suck with at gig.
Say If you have a pro-monitor quality speaker you will train you ear to hear all of the music while DJing. And then if you go play out with shit speakers you will be at a lost because parts of the music will be missing. Dave from MorningGlory Sound and Lights |

i would rather hear all the sound while im playing and practicing.. imo
practice is practice... not only that.. but then you are practicing versitility, being able to play on various types of gear setup. what happens if you ONLY play on crap speakers that you only hear half the music? you play on good speakers and get all confused with all the extra sounds. ive seen beginner djs that suddenly cant mix with all the distraction... id rather be able to have a great little gathering or listen to my own music with the best reproduction possible... but to each his own my advice for what its worth is get the good speaks for your house/practicing. |
