I've heard good things but

Here’s a story that might make you wonder how they are as people.

I politely invited them to come down and play @ 7 Alexander St for a tag-team 1.5hr-2hr set. They agreed and said they would show up on the Wednesday. Wednesday they showed up, did a walkthrough and left without saying a word. I had just heard they arrived and before I knew it the cover girl said they left. I looked outside and watched them walk away. So basically they left me with 2 vacant hours to fill at 11:30-12:00 at night and didn’t have the decency to say hi. Sweeak (so weak)

I must admit the night started out slow so perhaps they were scared off by the lack of people. I guess they're Too Good for 7 Alexander.

Anyways to say the least I was left with a bad impression. :021:

Werd, I hear what you's saying, but there's 2 sides to every story,,,

I did get a call from someone the day before, a girl on behalf of yourself to come play your night. We did agree to play for free(my initial understanding was the cover was free, even though it turned out to be $5, so I am not sure why we were playing for free, but that’s a different story,), no liquor or nothing just out of the kindness of our hearts. No Prob, I throw parties and have done many club nights in the past and know what it’s like. Funny enough Rob and I did a night at 7 with Travis aka DJ Velcro so were not too good to play there. :034:

My only question about the gig was "what kind of mixer will be there".

The Response given “Either a DJ600 or a Numark”

My response “Make sure you have the DJ600 and we’ll play. Cool.”

The Response given “Ok, no problem. For sure.”

Now I spin Trance and it’s all about Blending and Phasing, and I use the Que Blend method of beatmatching/mixing and will not play on a DJ500 or any mixer that does not have Que mix. Rob is not as touchy but prefers to use the que mix aswell.

So we spent the night before and Wednesday evening getting a Clubby Hard Set together. We jumped on skytrain to come downtown, only to have to deal with a jumper at broadway station, making our trip over a hour and a half. We arrive at the club, Upon arrival we are greeted by …………………………..

A DJ500 mixer

I was like "what the fuck ?"

Rob was like "this is cheese I thought they had a 600 ? Lets roll."

On top of it all we both work Mon-Fri 8-4 type jobs and had better things to do, like sleep. So we went home and slept.

Sorry No Disrespect intended.

Trance Professors??????????????

Who do these guys think they are? I can't believe they have the nerve to be upset that you ONLY had a Pioneer 500. So many djs (including myself) would give their left nut for a chance to open! let alone headline at any clubnight. So what do you say, give me a set of gemini's, a scratchmaster and some streetstyle headphones and I'll rock it........free of charge and I'll buy you guys a couple beerz! :262: WORD!

I hear ya fader...

Well here’s another side…

Unfortunately It’s extremely hard to keep things free when flyers need to be printed and distributed, an executive account on Clubvibes needs to be funded and some various other costs need to be covered. We started out as a free night and still offer free cover before 11:00pm. I think that’s more than fair. In fact if someone complained that they had to work until 11:00pm I’d let them in for free anyways. *Booze is always included for those who play.

Ok next issue….
The numark mixer was there. In fact 2 other mixers were also present. But I guess you assumed we didn’t have that covered. Brent sets up all the equipment and has the ability to switch it up at any given time. His common set-up is what you saw. The other mixers present were a vestax, rane and Numark Pro-sm1. Now personally I can play on any piece of shit mixer and I’ve done it in the past. I guess that’s where you and I are different. Walking away is something Paul Oakenfold might do. It’s a club, not a world premiere of a trance set. Had you emphasized the importance of your inability to play on a similar brand lower modeled mixer, I would have had the numark set-up from the get go. Sean off this site can play an incredible trance set using the dj500 without a single complaint.

I’m sorry you ran into problems at Broadway. I know that a slow trip getting there can make things worse. The only thing that boggles my mind is you didn’t confront me about the problem. It sounds like you think I’m idiot who can’t fix a problem. Instead of high-tailing it out of there you should have approached me in a mature fashion. I’m super-reasonable and would have taken all blame for the mishap and exchanged the mixer. Next time we’ll get things right and enjoy the night instead of wondering wtf happened.

Just my 2 bits…

Just wondering...............

What do you say, are you lookin' for a killer dj. I worked on wed for the last few months so I couldn't come down but my scedual has changed now. I don't play out much but I've played down at 7 quite a few times on the rane and the numark. I also have my own 600 (that you've played on a couple times actually :) at mysterious and a little four shores party) I play breaks, house, trance, techno what ever you would want to hear. So, what do ya say? I know that you guys have alot of djs. I would be honored to play, even open, it doesn't matter to me. If you would like a demo first, let me know. I just finished my first cd.

Yah sure why not

I will be up front though... It might not happen until early March, Mid-March if that's cool. Those little parties were fun, too bad Pete is a cowboy now. I'll keep you posted. :)

I also much prefer using cue/pgm blending to beat match, it's how I mix at home and how I taught myself to mix, but in a club type scenario like the 7 when you have a Mackie blasting into your ear from about 2 feet away, you can pretty much get the exact same effect by simply standing next to the speaker with your headphones listening to the queued track while the current track is blasting in your ear. By adjusting the trim on queued track you're listening to on the headphones, you get pretty much the exact same effect (you'll go deaf sooner though =P).

Anyways, I got to spin for 2hrs and 20 minutes that night so I was happy =)

Mark, no offence, but that's a pretty damn lame excuse not to play a show. i assume by queue mix you mean split que, 1 sound source in the left earphone and the other in the right. Sure, it's really NICE to have that feature on a mixer, but its really not that hard at ALL to mix without it. I mean, fuck, I mix dnb, and have a new record going every 1.5 - 2.5 minutes, and I just use a normal headphone que to do it. It's really not that hard.

If you really can't mix well at all without split queing, then you are most likely going deaf ans should probably start taking way better care of your ears or something.

PS. i thought the DJ500 did have split queing in it.

Dude you are totally right! The pioneer 500 does have a split cue, but you have to know how to use it! Which leads one to ponder...........................

He doesn't mean split cue. What he means is a headphone crossfader of sorts, so you can listen to say, the queued track at full volume, and the track playing at say, 60% volume.

mark, rob...

That is kinda weak...

I once had a show where the stage I was playing on wasn't set up, and half the dj's walked cause the promoter was snorting drugs in his car. my timeslot was moved by 3 hours and I was moved to the jungle stage...

I still played though...

don't let something like a mixer fuck shit up...

Duh!!! Thats what I just said.

On the left hand side there are 2 knobs above the headphone jack. The bottom one is your volume the top is your HEADPHONE BLEND! There is a cue button just above your master that enables the blending function. Have you ever used a 500? :262: says,"Pity the fools!!!!!!!!!!!"

No, The DJ500 Does not have Cue Mix. Only the DJ600 does, trust me I know. There is no Blend on the 500.
