Mixers

Hey everyone,
While I was back home in Calgary for Cristmas, someone thought it would be cool to break in and steel my decks, mixer, stereo, and my 505 :210: . People suck. Anyway, I'm in the market for a new mixer and was wondering what you all would recomend. I'm looking for some kick ass sh*t. Right now I have my eye on the pioneer 500 :c-tard: . Any thoughts on something beter or just as good?
Thanks,
Ryan

I like the Allen & Heath Xone mixers alot better than the pioneer 500/600s personally.

mixers

There is a new Pioneer commin out real soon thats supposed to kick the 600s ass so if I were you, research on that before you start spending your $$ on a 600.

PS Its a shiney black and gold finish.

hmm..

the problems with the 500's are that they overheat and cut out. Also their is no effects mixer, so you can't give say 25% of the effect to the track playing, rather than 100% all the time. Also the crossdafer in the 600 has more options for curves and such. It's just a better built mixer. I wouldn't recommend the 500 just based on that alone.

Allen Heath top end would be the best for sound quality, but if you want Effects and shit, your going to have to buy an outboard effects unit.. which would run the price wayyyyyyyy up.

The last time I checked the 600 was roughly $1800CND, but it could have dropped...

My opinion on mixers..

So, yeah, weather you dj at home, or you dj at clubs/parties and shit. I do not see the point of buying a DJM-600 or anything of that calibre. You're at home, your mixing at home, your practicing at home. If you play out, you're not taking your mixer with you. You'll get plenty of chances to play with the 600 when your playing out, and it's not that difficult to pick up. So why spend a shitload of money on something you don't really need, unless your a rich bitch with tons of money to burn.

I think all you need at home is a Vestax PCV-175 mixer, or something simple like a Numark 3002x or something equivilent. Buying a more expensive/better mixer isn't going to help the quality of your dj'ing.

Yeah, we'd all love to have DJM-600 or an Allen and Heath, but fuck we deffinately don't NEED it. I think it's just a big waste of money you could be spending on Vinyl, and vinyl is the most important part of any dj'ing setup. =)

Kyle
The Xone mixers do have 2 built in filters though, one on either side of the crossfader. That alone I think is cool enough. but then again I'm a filter nut and if I had outboard FX for a mixer, all I'd probably use would be the filters anyways.

I wouldn't mind having one for a big mixing setup (say like, a couple turntables, 3 or 4 cd decks and a couple groovebox type things), but as for just mixing 2 records together, Oddmud is right. Don't waste tons of money on a really flashy mixer for home practicing.

Thanks

Thanks for the tips. Not sure what I'm going to do yet, still have a while before all the shit goes through insurance. All I know is I'm going to get some tech 12's. Damnit, way to many choices for mixers :284: ...

Ryan (gunna get some new shit :c-tard: !)

This is a reply to oddmuds post......

If you have the 600 at home you can utilize all the features that the mixer can do and master it all. Not just the little flange here or filter there. There are crazy sampling tricks you can do once your super familiar with the machine.

I have had the chance to use it at home for a few weeks and have figured out how to sample a dope loop, take both rekids off, slow the loop down and then beat juggle 2 rekids while the sampled loop is still playing.

There are enless things possible with practice on that machine and I havent seen anyone do anything that pushes the capabilities of the thing..........Everyone does all the same shit which is the shit you learn when your playing out at a party.

and BTW, to the guy who got his shit stolen,

I saw a guy who pulled a 505 outta his bag today and he said he got it for dirt cheap.... wouldnt even tell me for how much or where he got it from.

BUT, I did flip it over and not down the serial # so if you still have the box, and have the serial # then we can see if its yours

You know what, rent one for a couple weeks, don't pay almost $2000 to learn the tricks, it's not worth it. I knew someone was gonna tell me that.

It's not worth it.

yeah...
it's not that hard to do on the fly sampling, especially with a sampler that's designed to do it as quickly and easily as possible.
