Spoke to the Krafty one yesterday morning about this.

He's just finished up an essential mix for Pete Tong! -- I can't wait to hear this... should be some good beats including a track I gave him.

Soda was mentioning you can catch his set vs. Hooligan along with others online!

um...

i don't think it's fixed..

almost all those results are one way or another big room breaks...

if you think it's fixed, what would your results look like?

based on sales as well.. sales in the fact that the more sales the more people know about a track... alot of people voting aren't dj's and only know big tracks and big players.

i've always thought the plumps are tops... i don;t play alot of their material or ever have, but for the placement and market they are in for breaks.. they do it proper. Same with Krafty, he caters to that market, the big room sound.

MOFO is the only viable magazine for breaks.

Fingerlicking is a widely selling label, because well they got the plumps, coombs, 2 in da bush, soul of man etc...

Krafty Kuts had a huge tour this last year and did really well on his sales. I think the year before was Freeland or Jonathan Lisle right?

Rennie Pilgrem for contribution.. im not even going to argue that.

Website is right as well, nubreaks.com is the only other "competitor" and they rarely update the content since Ed left.

Evil nines album was great, and behind marine parade and adam rinsing every track in his sets.. the guys had alot of exposure.. as well as freelands fabric cd with their tunes on it.. big friggen deal for the breaks world. It also helps it was released year end,. closer to voting dates ;). Septemberish..

Freestylers are freestylers, huge fan base around the world, residents at fabric.. the true playaz.. easily can win one category.

Vinyl Addiction sells alot of breaks, plain and simple. heh

everything else is pretty much subjective... breakfastaz, biff etc..

^ well said kyle

The evil nine result for best album is on par with the break beat sound.

not the most diverse results this year but 2004 wasn't the best year for breakbeat production

You know what though, the pool of 'big room djs' is too small and every year (although freeland didn't get anything this year) is pretty much the same people. Plump, Krafty are winners EVERY year. Nuskoolbreaks wins best website EVERY year, fingerlickin every year, pretty much anyways. I'm glad groups like freestlyers, breakfastaz, evil 9 etc are getting recognition instead of the big 8 (rennie, plump, krafty, freeland, koma/bones, meet katie, uberzone, freq). Very disapointed Deekline didn't get the nod for best remix (Boomblast - Freestylers) as I think that was by far the top remix of the year.

Anyways, a big Zzzzzzz goes out to breakspoll.

What's the point of having an awards show if its the same winners pretty much every year.

true but look at F1 racing.

I'm a Ferrari fan, but because they have dominated F1 for the last few years I have lost interest in the sport.

This is why I have focused on different lables like mantra and streetwise the last few years. I still play a large amount of meatkatie, koma and bones, freeland, and the odd plump djs remix because I know the crowd will respond to these solid tracks.

however I am much more interested in testing out the beats that are less known and take the corwds reaction to these tracks with much more interest and understanding.

I hope more people vote next year to make new sounds as large as the stantons krafty and the plumps

I don't think that Breakspoll is fixed in the slightest, I just think that it is up to the people to vote. I voted, so I counted. IMO there were other labels right up to par with Finger Lickin's releases this year, but that is why I voted for Against the Grain instead. I think that Push Up deserved best single, but hey we all know when it really came out, and that was definately not this year. My vote sure counted when NSB won best breaks site though... BIG UPS BOYS!!!

heh..

so what your saying is, just because they win year after year, and continue to do a good job repping their breaks, the promotion behind it and hard work in the industry, there should be a cap?

So if a director wins an oscar, and he does another amazing film the next year, and no one really topped him, he shouldn't win again?

Naw man, I just think there's 2 billion djs on this planet so why are the same djs winning awards for the same categories year after year. It just gets boring, and quite frankly, I can't stand Meat Katie/Blim breaks anymore because it hasent evolved, and I think evolution of the sound is what should win you awards. Trust me I'll always be a fan of the old Rennie stuff, but it's truly pointless to have an awards show each year for the same artists winnig the same awards, same goes for anything else. I got bored of the yankees, I got bored of the lakers, etc.

My two cents.
