Hernan Cattaneo - Renaissance Masters Series: Volume 2, 2xCD
Since his emergence as one of the finest DJs in his native South America, Hernan Cattaneo has steadily worked his way to becoming one of the best DJs in the world. Securing a weekly residency at the Saturday nighter 'Clubland' at Pacha in Buenos Aires in 1996, the night's popularity soared and still continues to do so today, and it was here that Hernan first got to play alongside some of the world's best talent, with Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, John Digweed, Danny Tenaglia amongst the many he shared a DJ booth with.
The Clubland night has gone on to become one of the best in the world, and Hernan has been a resident for Cream, taken part in numerous Perfecto tours across the UK, US and Europe with Paul Oakenfold, and his international schedule has taken him further and further afield, playing bigger nights, festivals and in 2001 first entered the DJ Magazine Top 100 at a very respectable #50. It was in 1999 that Hernan first appeared on the bill of a Renaissance night, and he's been very much involved with the brand for the last few years, with 2004 seeing Hernan joining the elite few to have compiled a mix for the prestigious Masters Series, joining a list that includes Dave Seaman, Danny Howells and Deep Dish. The compilation received widespread acclaim, and coupled with a growing prominence as a producer and remixer, Hernan's career reached even further as he toured the world in support of the album, and as the year came to an end, he climbed DJ Magazine's Top 100 list once more, only this time he broke into the Top 10 in a big way, ranking at #6. Now as we enter a new year, Renaissance are set to build on the strong series of compilations they released in 2004, and Hernan Cattaneo leads the charge with his second 'Masters Series' compilation. Turning to the tracklist and it's everything you may expect, focusing on some of the brightest luminaries from within the scene. Disc One takes in tracks from Pole Folder, 16B, the most excellent Tom Middleton, Morel, Dean Coleman and fellow South American native Hawaii, whilst Disc Two looks to the likes of John Graham, Andy Page, Nick Muir, Hybrid, Underworld and as further evidence of Hernan's dedication to highlighting new and upcoming talent, Dousk and Derek Howell. Both discs, throughout, are peppered with Hernan’s own productions and re-edits, many exclusively created for the album, and presented with the familiar quality packaging and hallmarks that you would associate with an album from Renaissance. Hernan will once again be touring in support of the album, starting in Australia and working his way through Asia, with further dates to follow shortly, so whether it's live or via this latest compilation, you can start your year by listening to not only South America's most popular dance export, but one of the best DJs in the world right now.
