Funky People Listen Up!!

This week is MASSIVE for FUNK VINYL!! Don't ask me why, but there seems to be an onslaught of quality Funk this week, be it funky breaks, mid-tempo groovers, or rare old-school gems. Here's a list of some of the heaviest bits coming through this week:

Chris Joss - Discotheque Dancing [ESL080]
Eighteenth Street Lounge brings you the first single from
French producer CHRIS JOSS' forthcoming album. A hammond
infected breakbeat swinger, this track gets remixed by URSULA 1000 on the
A-side and FORT KNOX FIVE remix the blaxploitation funk of "WRONG ALLEY
STREET" on the B-side.

James Brown - Can I Get Some Help [JB105]
Fifth in the series of previously unreleased JAMES BROWN recordings. This
much-sampled classic gets an extra 3 minutes on this unreleased long
version. B-side "GET IT TOGETHER" from 1967 has only been issued in a much
shorter form. Faithfully reproduced for a "genuine" 60's look.

Malente - Rip It Up [UNIQ093]
Killer new DLP from Dynamo Production's label UNIQUE, chock full of exclusive remixes from STRIKE BOYS, DUBLEX INC, BOCA 45, DR RUBBERFUNK, KILLERGROOVE, ALL GOOD FUNK ALLIANCE and more. 12 tracks in all. Absolutely essential for fans of the funky beats.

Marc Gregor - Wade In The Water [UNIQ082]
Retro sounding rare groove and funk 7" from UNIQUE. A limited 7" sure to pop
up in the boxes of KEB DARGE, KENNY DOPE, PETE ROCK, SHADOW and more.

Rick James & Prince - Detroit Re-Edits [FIX04]
Smoking hot new 12" from 2 "unknown" but well known Detroit producers. The A-Side has 2 very subtly done re-edits for RICK JAMES' "COLD BLOODED & "GHETTO LIFE". The flip is all Prince! It features edits of "CONTROVERSY" & "SO HIGH".

First Floor Brothers/Chi-Town Strut [CIT06]
Stunning new 12" from Chicago's FIRST FLOOR BROS. This is a groovy up beat jam that also includes a dancefloor killing remix from the ALL GOOD FUNK ALLIANCE. This new 12" is aimed squarely at the dancefloor and people who may have passed the CITRONA 12"s by so absolutely, positively check this out!

Ulticut Ups! - Lesson CD [FRCD008]
New double mix CD from Japanese (but run from Brooklyn, NY) label FLAROCK RECORDS. One CD is mixed DJ YU-KI, the other byDJ TAHARA but they both feature cool hip hop, jazz, soul, funk and more. 40+ tracks on each CD. Old school hip hop styled mix with lots of cutting andscratching-get out your roller skates!

12 Shades of Fantasy - Jungle Soul [PHARD11]
PLAYHARD has gone back to the trusty 7" with the latest from 12 SHADES OF
FANTASY. He's bringing it with another funk assault on the dancefloor with
"JUNGLE SOUL" a driving funk/jazz number. Flip for "SPIRAL 9" a discofied
tune that takes this release over the top!

All Good Funk Alliance - What It Is [MD011]
Some vintage AGFA finally sees the light of day via Belgiums HI-PHEN RECORDS. All in all its 4 rock solid house tempo funky breaks tracks that would make FORT KNOX FIVE & ED ROYAL proud.

Dublex Inc - Eight Ears RMXS [PULVER021]
An excellent trio of remixes taken from the DUBLEX INC album. "QUEEK" gets a
super tweeked shuffly house remix from PAUL JAY, while WATCH TV drops a
hard-hitting uptempo, funky breaks mix of "SHE'LL STAY". Then MOTORCITYSOUL lays out a fantastically propulsive, yet subtle, house mix of "BOOGIE BOIL".

Kurtis Blow - Breaks '04 (Dublex Inc / DJ Trax RMXs) [HPHON006]
Back In Stock! The old skool rap classic from KURTIS BLOW gets a new lease on life with two brand new 2004 remixes from DUBLEX INC (the "MASSIVE TIMBALAS RE- ATTACKED" mix) and DJ TRAX. Very respectful of the original with the full vocal, but new more modern sounding mid-tempo hip hop beats and breaks.

No I.D./Gringo Starr's Worst Hits EP [ID005]
New 4 track mash up EP, this feats PHAROAH MONCH vs MOHAWKS, ULTRAMAGNETIC MCs vs BREAKESTRA ("BRONX MY STYLE"), a twisted "CRAZY IN LOVE" remix (BEYONCE vs CHUBBY DIGITS) and a cheesy SIMPSONS meets DE LA SOUL mashup.

Roots Manuva vs Sa-Ra - Witness 1 Hope [MW01]
The mighty ROOTS MANUVA meets those space kats SA-RA for a astro funk rework of the MANUVA's "WITNESS (1 HOPE)"! SA-RA's fuzzed out bass and drum kicks take center stage for a dope track. The flip is underground sensation TYE TRIBBETT's full edit of "MIGHTY LONG WAY".

Soulsavers - Smoking & Drinking On A Tuesday Nite [SOULCD002]
A very cool mix CD from our pals the SOULSAVERS. 74 mins of soul, funk and rock sure to please the most discerning crate digger.
Masterfully blended for nonstop rare groove/funk/soul party action!

Speedometer - At The Speakeasy [FSR7004]
Speedometer - Work It Out [FSR7003]

Highly respected for their smokin' live shows, SPEEDOMETER has been making
rounds on the funk circuit for some time now. Newly expanded to include a
percussionist and a horn section, this band is smokin' new funk. Inspired by the deep funk sound of the late 60's and 70's, these 7"s are out on FREESTYLE RECORDS.

Steady Diggin - Keep It Together [CI7002]
The STEADY DIGGIN WORKSHOP drop a funky hip hop single with MCM on the mic. The flip "THE BLAZER" is an ultra funky instrumental with some cool flute parts (it's the original funk cut the a-side samples).

v/a - Who Shot Jaques Laverne [JTP003]
Two cuts off the JACQUE LAVERNE CD comp get pressed on to limited 7" vinyl.
DR RUBBERFUNK and the BASS SNATCHERS. DOM SERVINI in his STRAIGHT NO CHASER column says "...full on assualt of bouncy guitars, Hammond B3s, scratches and relentless live drums...cuts a pretty neat rug on the dancefloor."

Los Hermanos Latinos - Las Calenas remix / Puerto Rico remix [WHITE]
The A side on this wicked 12" white label reworks 'Los Calenas son como las Flores', a big cuban salsa hit from 74 / 75, and the flip is originally by Los Barbarians, a bit more of an obscure gem but really works. These will be a guaranteed party starter for the 'worldwide' floors! In next week...

Also, we've re-stocked the entire Fort Knox Recordings back catalogue...
Fort Knox Five - The Foundations EP [FKXP000]
Fort Knox Five - Dodge City Rockers [FKX001]
Fort Knox Five - The Big Score [FKX002]
Fort Knox Five - Blowing Up The BArrio [FKX003]
Fort Knox Five - The Brazillian Hipster [FKX004]

If you haven't got these yet, you need 'em - high quality funky breaks with a latin edge, that will rock any dancefloor. Check em out!

That's about it folks, don't sleep on any of these, they will move fast! For more info or to subscribe to our weekly new arrivals mailout, email [email protected] and i will hit you back as soon as possible...
