mp3 sound quality..
if you have a 64kbps mp3 is there anyway (with a program...) to re-record it (or something) and make it a higher bitrate
i know with an audio converter/recorder you can re-record it as a higher bitrate but does that actually change the quality to what you would have if you ripped it to 192 off a cd quick follow up- whats VBR quality VBR stands for... |

Just remember the old "garbage in, garbage out" saying. Resamling a low quality mp3 ot a higher bitrate won't make it sound better. The ideal situation is to record at the highest bitrate possible, preferably wav, then convert it to the desired format (mp3, ogg, flac, etc).

Get yourself a copy of Exact Audio Copy and the LAME encoder software and try making some MP3s from CDs. It's a slightly awkward program that takes a while to figure out, but it produces excellent results. I've ripped over a thousand MP3 files from CDs to VBR and they all sound exactly the same as the original WAV. The days of crappy-sounding MP3s are long gone, for anyone who puts a little effort into it.
The audiophile-recommended format is Alt Preset Standard because it has been extensively tested and uses about the same space as 192 CBR. There are 2 higher VBR bitrates but they have not been tested as much and they all sound the same (identical to WAV). Exact Audio Copy can also make CBR MP3s (Constant Bit Rate). Quote:
