i personally enourage it. every mix doesnt have to be a double drop but dd's here and there are really fun to watch when theyre done really well. i'm also surprised it took so long for dj's to start seeing the big deal about double drops. i think making a dd sound really dope takes a good ear for matching keys, and matching "vibes". your beatmatching needs to be VERY solid as well. doing dd's just for the sake of doing them can sound pretty shitty and boring. the anticipation for a siiick and different drop from a track you know is pretty exciting. when the keys mix and the idea behind it shines alot of creativity, it blows people away for sure. double drops can be so epic it's awesome. it's a great tool to separate the creativity of the dj from the producer. |

^ you don't get out enough. I don't think I've ever seen you at a dnb weekly

yea, dds are hard with particular tracks (i.e. no beats in the breaks) but honestly, too many people put too much emphasis on the concept. It's something everyone should learn and it's something everyone should have in their arsenal, but it's not the be-all end-all of mixing Last edited by dj_soo; Apr 06, 05 at 02:24 PM. |

Just another way of mixing, theres only really been like a couple double drops that i really liked, i.e when stu did bacteria rmx with cyclone. that sounded killer cuz of how the synths carried each other.
I can understand though, why some love em and some yawn at em. Sometimes they sound like shit, and it's not like it is something anyone with some creativity and some time can't achieve. Everything and Anything on the 1s and 2s have been done again and again. I'm more interested in live PA with DNB, like this video of future prophecies live that i recently saw. Im gonna try and do something like that but with a guitar and a sampler to add fills and samples. I like how Illesha incorporates keyboards and such into her live sound. great stuff! |

but i see your point about people seeing double drops as the highest potential in dnb. as for what i said being applicable to any form of mix or blend, true i guess. but i looooove double drops. in dance music it's ALL about the drops! they bring such a rush and sweet energy to initialize tha dance!! the big double drops of a new bassline and the combination of sounds that go so well with each other... such a great thing. i love epic shit. and not that many djs can compose themselves to beatmatch that flawlessly live so thats definetly an indication of some next level shit. i tried doing a triple drop... man it's fuckin hard. i wouldnt be surprised if andy c pressed his dubplates at the same bpm. bastard. |
