Pioneer DJM-707

Just picked one of these up yesterday.

Loving it so far. Sure it's not quite as nice as a Rane or an Ecler, but it's one hell of a mixer for the price! I've heard complaints about Pioneer sound quality at higher volumes but since I'm using it exclusively at home, I am incredibly happy with the sound quality. Definitely feels like a solidly built mixer and although the adjustable tension for the x-fader is a little gimmicky, I can see where some people would love to be able to customize that.

If you want a good scratch mixer at an amazing price ($499 down from $1000) or are looking for a secondary mixer, I highly recommend it.

yea, i'd rate it around a step below an Ecler (which is a step below a Rane in my mind) and comparable to a Vestax 07, although each have features that the other doesn't have. I prefer the pioneer to the 07 right now (only used it for 2 days though). Can't really comment on sound quality differences cause my experience with each have been in totally different settings...

I'm pretty sure it uses the same or compatible crossfader as the 909 which i don't think is being discontinued.

yea, I've heard nothing about the 909s being discontinued and it's the same basic mixer as the 707 - just with an effects module added.

This looks like a nice mixer, I've seen it online for approximately 370 dollars now, I'm thinking of picking it up too. What other mixers are there that are comparable, in the 500 dollar price range?

I saw Akeel's ecler post for the NUO 4, I think. I might hold out for that unless I find something cheaper and decent. Where did you get the mixer?

^^You won't be disappointed with the ecler, i got a nuo5, sound quality is awesome, nice build, Huge EQ knobs and nice layout... Although the 707 seems like great value, i liked the feel of it in the store, but i can't attest do its sound quality though as i just played with it in the store

my 707 wobbles. hard to explain. but yeah, i bit the bullet with an old school American DJ mixer for the longest time and when i finally upgraded, i chose the 707. I like everything about it and would recommend it also.

if you're looking for a full-on mixing mixer and have no interest in scratching, I'd probably hold off on it since it is primarily a scratch mixer. As far as comparable scratch mixers for $500, I don't think there are any - it's essentially a $1000 mixer that is being discontinued so they dropped the price drastically for clearance. Like I said, the closest in quality and features is probably a Vestax 07 with the Ecler Hak series and the Rane TM56 being similar styles but higher quality.

For a home mixer, I think the 707 is perfect. For a performing mixer, you'll defintiely be getting better sound quality on a Rane (and probably ecler). It's the standard Pioneer mixer sound quality so it pretty much sounds like a DJM500 or 600 meaning it's got a good quality of sound on a big system but has a tendancy to crap out a bit a super-high volumes.

707

I heard this mixer was sick.
I'm still going to pick up a rane, but might rock one of these as a third mixer.
My pro-5 is starting to show it's age.

MSA.

if you have the cash, get a Rane 56...

If the 707 was still $1000, I would have gotten an Ecler or Rane before the 707.

Hell ya man, I'm saving for the 56 now.
A mixer that claims you never replace the faders is definately worth it.
I cut it up on my boys 56 and the cuts come correct.

While I love the rane56, it is way too overpriced, i'm happy with my 360 :)

Have you tried an Ecler Hak 360 yet? Slightly less expensive and definitely comparable to a Rane56 - in fact I've heard many people say they like the xfader for the Ecler better than the Rane.

Same type of magnetic no-contact fader which also has a 5-year warranty

No way. I don't know anyone who has one so unfortunately, I can't try it out.
All the guys i know have either the 05, 06, 54 and 56's. I'm dying to try one out though. I really like the feel of the 56...

I'll have to check it out at tom lee.

You play at tokyo lounge every sunday? Do you cut?

yea, i do, but I'm not very good - I'm still just learning how to scratch and can only pull off a couple patterns right now...

Long & McQuade sells the Ecler's too and they're usually pretty good about letting you demo em...

^ don't expect to hear much (if any) scratching on sundays. It's a dnb night and all they have is a pioneer djm500 - one of these days i'll probably bring in a scratch mixer and let Manos go to town...

No doubt. It's all good. I'd just come to listen to the beats and mixing. I'd love to get on stage and cut. That would be bomb, But i'll come and see.
