They're as lost in the 90s as the rest of us. Electro-rock is the wave of the future, 'tis my prophecy. Bright Eyes are getting into it, Death Cab for Cutie already got into it... And god knows how successful Such Great Heights was last year.... Maybe that's just because I think The Faint are the Greatest Band Evar. |

I swear, every time I play this song people love it, but yet nobody knows this fucking song. Everybody keeps playing Requiem for a Hit, which, first of all, belongs on +2, and secondly, has gotten way too much airplay for my own liking. |

If you think that I literally meant that DJs have to suck a penis in order to get a booking or to get their genre heard, then unfortunately you're the stupid person here. That was just a sarcastic post I made. I like being sarcastic on FNK.

Eeb: electro-rock eh? ;-) speaking of which, I just the 12" of Block Party's Tulips with the club mix on there... great song. That whole album is totally awesome. Wish i had a chance to see them when they were here :-(
OK, so some good points have been made so far: a) electro does not go nicely with "E" or "JIB" cause it has that 80s feel which is more "c" oriented ;-) b) electro is "adult" music (which I dunno if I agree with, seeing as so much of electroclash/house, etc... is super fun and cheesy, and "kids" would love them) c) electro has a certain attitude that goes along with it, that does not jive with rave culture, ie the whole "VICE" magazine scene... I agree and disagree with this. Seeing as electro has roots in both electronica and rock, leaning a lot heavier on the electronica side, you figure it would have been accepted in the electronica all night party community with open arms, specially since there are electro-breaks/prog and house flavours which corss very nicely into those existing genres, but add a whole new dimension to them Did I miss anything? :-) -f. |

honestly, i hate all the hype that went along with the electro bullshit scene... the idea that there's a culture around it seems to messed... you ask any of the pros that are known for it, and they hate the word... Miss Kittin is playing mainly deep tech sounds (ala Michael Mayer and Youngsters), Felix is playing self-proclaimed "old white-boy music"
for sure the parties can use a different angle to the music in some ways, but typically people want cheesier stuff, otherwise the deep prog craze of 2-4 years ago would have got in there more too the one thing find funny is how everyone always wants to play on one of the extremes.. like some kids want to play "the funkiest breaks possible", "the most vocally disco stuff" , "the hardest hard" , or "the tranciest trance" ... dunnno.. seems better to just be more accessible to alot of things and work the room to suit it |

I'm feeling the same about The Faint. Wish I knew about them back in November.... But oh well. I'll catch 'em next time. |

I get the impression from electro that it plays to the 80's innocence with technology wonderfully. For those of us who recall that decade, it does bring back a wave of nostalgia but now that we live in a society that is so overrun with technology, electro strips down the overabundence of it to a grittier, simpliar, human quality.
The next wave of party kids (gererally speaking of course) seem so co-dependent on modern technology that was a novelty even in the 90's. The same could be said for the music, as a great deal of it, in all forms, has that technological gloss to help it sound that much more appealling. To get into any kind of EDM that sounds as raw as most electro does is more difficult unless they approach it from an ironic or historical point of view. |

allright well, I play, buy, and produce exclusively Electro/Electro-House. Melodic, Quirky, Techy , 80's influenced stuff except with updated sounds and the futuristic vibe. love it! haha
Not that i go to too many parties these days but im pretty much the only dj I know playing full on electro sets (im sure there must be a couple but i dont know 'em :) ) I know some of the club guys have been hitting it for a while now, but i dont see them out at parties. anyways, great music!! thats what its all about right :D |
