The one that really made the biggest impression for me was seeing Radar live a couple years back - the shit he was doing with a foot-controlled sampler and live looping was unheard of back then and no one in the crowd was expecting it. It took a good 15 minutes to figure out what he was actually doing in the first place...

I have the '02 clip of Kintaro doing the house cuts, then to salsa, then raggae, then d&b. Fuck that was an amazing set too. The video lags a bit behind the audio though.

Haha probably the worst clip I've ever seen is a DMC US clip I have of DJ P? Tulsa Ok? Fucking funny, makes you wonder how this dude ever got up there, and why the crowd loved it so much, because quite frankly, it sucked.

How you gonna come and disrespect P like that. Just because it wasn't "turntablism" in the conventional sense, doesn't mean it sucked. He got a standing ovation because 1) He had the balls to go up there and throw down an original set that no one in the history of the DMCs had ever witnessed 2) It was easily one of the most creative routines ever put together. The DMCs are the same thing every year (Japanese scratch really fast, Americans have the more creative juggling and Europeans come up with some crazy noises and off the wall routines). It was great to see another DJ breaking the mold for once.

Dunno if this it's the show you're referring to but I have a recording of the 3 hour show they did in Seattle (although the mix is labelled Houston for some reason). It's got about 8 or so minutes of Radar looping himself.

I can send it to you if you don't already have it.

DJ P is one of my alltime favorite DJs, but even I have to say that technically, his set wasn't that amazing (I've heard way better from him).

*BUT* he did have the balls to compete in the DMCs with a mix-heavy set when historically, the DMCs have all been about technical scratching/juggling and the man went out there and busted some b-boy moves in the middle of his set. He knows how to please a crowd and is one of the best party-rockin DJs I've ever heard.

Now if only someone would book him here...

I have that set of him and Z-Trip in Seattle. I think Houstans is the name of the club or something? Groovetech used to have a video of that show before they went under (and a few other kick-ass Z-Trip sets)

The set I saw was at Commodore a number of years back with Q-bert as the headliner and Fatlip from Pharcyde on the bill.

Best/battle set I've seen was in 96-97 right after when a-trak won the dmc world championship. It was a-trak vs kid koala it was just absolutely amazing considering these 2 guys were ppl who literally grew up just down the street where I lived. Lots of a people was there. 1 of the members of ONYX was there as well as DJ Rectangle. And also the grould Shades of Culture with there dj, DJ Storm. You also had a whole bunch of people of Ninja Tunes and Tigerbeat 6 that was around because I believe at that time thats when Kid Koala just got signed up with ninja tunes. There was also a whole bunch of other known artists and affiliates that came from all over the place that was present.

dj p's set was dope dope. some of these dmc world finals sets are so fucking boring....no showmanship whatsoever.
dont front on dj p.
kentaro's set was pretty ridiculous. very innovative.
the old scratch pikelz sets are crazy too. doing the whole thing with the line switches.
recently, plus scratch's set from the vancouver dmc's this year was pretty crazy. boy was beat juggling with 1 hand. never seen that before.

Yep, that's the one. EVERYONE had to have a look at this. THIS, is turntablism at it's finest. Complete with innovation, creativity, and some mad skill.

Wow I didn't know this DJ P cat had such a big following. Yeah sure the b-boy shit, which had never been seen before, props to that. But that is definatly not what the dmc thing is all about. I'm going to get killed for 'well it's innovative, it's never been done before' And I say well good! It's supposed to what you can do with two turntables, weither you light them on fire, or try and cut yourself with a broken record (Swamp, '96) but that whole b-boy shit had nothing to do with the skill and creativity behind the decks. I guess that clip was pretty 'creative' for it's time, pre Z-trip and all.

But.. not dmc quality IMO.

X-men @ the Scratch tour @ the Cave (which is now known as Plush)
or
Mix Master Mike @ the Purple Onion for a Benson and Hedges Gold Club Series party.

Both shows were wicked.
