really the best way is to record them yourself. unless you're going for a popular phrase (movie quotes, or whatever) If you want a "hook" alot of producers will bring in different singers to copy the original so you don't have extra artifacts in the sample (like drum hits, or any noise) Many of the vocal sample CD's are crap, 95% of the samples are useless and the ones that are O.K you know 1 million other people will have exactly the same thing.

Think of a word or phrase, record it, mix with generous amounts of delay and swirling effects :)

I don't have singers, but I'll get vocal samples mostly from movies... I have one song that has several samples from "The Cell"

Almost all my vocal samples positively reek of my phlegmy(sp? is it a word?) white-boy flavour.

totally depends on what kind of samples you want. acapella's are good, if you want ragga samples, i listen to soundclashes (live competitions) to get all of mine. movie's are cool of course, recording your own. hell, i draw samples from pretty much everything i do or listen to. helps to have a job where i have to listen to music tho :P
