Shows in the UK VS. Shows anywhere else.
Man. I WISH. I WISH we had even 20% of the shows the uk throws. Where the biggest dj's in the world are residents, where you can pay $20 and see 15 or 20 of the biggest DJ's in the world (eg, Best of British, Breakspoll awards among the hundreds of others)
London is the only place in the world where they play drum n bass in mcdonalds. That's no joke. Where giant music festivals close town entire parts of london. All for electronic music. Where you can hop from club to club and see Ritchie Hawtin at 10pm, Breakfastaz at 11pm and Andy C at 12pm. The biggest radio stations (say, the equivalent of the beat, Z95, etc) play a majority of electronic music. It'll never happen here.... will it? Never. North america is too top 40, where in the uk, electronic music takes up 25 places in the top 40. Hell, when I was there, a Shy FX track was in the top 5. (Wishes he still lived in london) :( |

^^ werd, i feel your pain. it blows me away how something that started in a couple cities in north america could fuckin explode and be embraced by a whole country and still to this day never really hit it as big over here.
it also blows me away that the majority of people here actually prefer top 40 clubs. (hmm do they actually or r they just ignorant?) |

Hah, speaking of which, this MC in one of the sets i'm listening to says "Listen, DJ! Pull Up! Okay, Now, if anyone is caught robbing, stealing, or anything like that, we will bring you up here in your fucking underwear so the whole party can see you in your worst moment. If you see ANYONE stealing, report them to security or myself, EVERYONE GOT THAT!?' Fucking brilliant! Do you think you'd see that in any other scene? No. They'd be beaten up by bouncers and thrown out. I think the above method would prove more effective. |

I totally agree... I know the westcoast has some serious talent, and I love a lot of the DJ's that come from here, but the UK is where it's all at. I actually want to move there for at least a while once I am done school, and shoot indie film and whatnot over there.
And I am always listening to BBC radio... You name it, they have it. And it's almost always hawt! |

i've got a couple friends from the uk who have said it'd would be cool to catch some of the bigger names we get over here in our smaller more intimate venues, so at least we have that. but still the talent over there! the massive venues!....the festivals! just not fair.
oh and i second the comment on getting into indie filming in the uk. thats my plan too. especially since working in the states right now is getting less and less appealing by the day. |
