Drum n Bass Question..
So listening to a couple of 05 best of british sets..
If there's a big show, with say 8-10 djs, (eg, best of british) do you hear the same tracks over and over again.. because ofcourse it's all about the new shit right? the promos? so if you got 8 djs, wouldn't they be playing the same promos? Gone through a J magik set & a mampi swift set so far and have heard a couple of the same tracks... What happened to finding tracks that no one esle had! That was the shit when you used to drop a track that had never been heard and see all the chumps come up to the decks looking at the label? REMEMBER HIDING THE FUCKING LABEL? What happened to that? |

yeah thats been going on since i first got into dnb.... seems like they just show up for their set and totally ignore the set before them. they probably have no idea wtf all the other dudes dropped that night and just drop out their favorites... why should they compromise cuz someone played those tracks first.
besides it would be nice if those producer dj types played more personal remixes, unrealeased dancesmashers etc . andy c is definetly by far the best drumnbass dj when it comes to originality and skill on the decks. seems like hes also more upfront with hot new shit. dsl is also completely on a league of his own as well. i havent been feeling the dungeon beats hes been doing but i'll always have mad love for that dude.... 2000-2003 was just full out sick for dsl |

The same tunes geting played over and over has always been the way at big dnb events over here. I was at a festival a few years back when the remix of champion sound was the tune of the monent and just about every dj started and ended the set with it (Yawwn). Andy C started his set with it and then rewound it!!! his first tune!!! , gets a bit annoying after a while.

Yeah its a bunch of losers that make the same sounding shit.
Its called gay-n-bass. And the loser dj's that just wanna look cool while playing a certain tune eg " x-ray by subfocus " Everything is played out except for my shit that hasnt been heard yet. Last edited by IN-AC-URIT; May 18, 05 at 07:19 AM. |

yup, it's called cock-rock syndrome. all the guys try and be cool and play those "oh-so-hard-to-get" tunes. i used to attend the Ultraworld parties in DC which had all-star lineups.. I remember one party the second room lineup was Hype, J-Majik, Adam F, Doc Scott, Jumping Jack Frost, Ray Keith, Marcus Intalex, Fierce and Randall.. or something like that. Same thing you described.. it was almost like listening to Z95 or something, the same tuness every hour or two, unbelievable!!
I actually got fed up at the last WMC in Miami I went to as well, Dillinja's "Twist Em Out" was the hot dubplate of the week. Can you imagine hearing those stabs OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER again. I think I had nightmares about it. I thought it was aight the first twenty-five times I heard it but come on. I'm all for playing a mix of your own tunes, unreleased tunes, older tunes that haven't been played in awhile, rare classics... it went downhill when DJing became a celebrity-status thing. |

DnB has been like this for years. Andy C does it too, so don't put him up on a pedestal. When a big tune is in circulation every big Uk DJ canes it to death. It's always been a complaint of mine about UK DNB Djs, too much emphasis is put on playing the latest, hottest tracks as opposed to DJing skills and originality.
Just a note on covering or hiding the record label. Unless it is a track you made personally, you don't have the right to cover up the info on someone else's tune. Most producers are trying to make it in this bizz and hiding the info so no one knows what it is is disrespectful and selfish. You wanna play ish that no one else is playing, dig deeper and work on developing your own style. PS: Yo Illy, some those Ultraworld parties were pretty nutso huh? My first really big massives were Ultraworlds. Ahh, memories. Last edited by angst; May 18, 05 at 01:46 PM. |

Yeah this is also a big problem thats always been in the dnb scene, but if you dont want to be playing old tunes by the time they come out do some diggin there are so many killer dnb tracks that just slip thru the cracks cause one of the big names didnt write it or is playing it to death , trust me. |

trust me..I aint all about the fresh tunes...I got mad essentials from 1999 - till now...it's just that I have boughten 95% of all my fave tracks from that past (even multiple copies on some )....I've bought like 500 records in a year...some even that I paid a sick amount for....fuck...man..I've prolly spent like $14,000...

im just saying you dont need to be droping all the big tunes in order for your set to be badass as i said i notice lots of dnb tune appear on promo and that will be all you hear from that artist even tho the tune is sick. lots of kidz making tunes in there bedrooms ,some might just scrape enuff cash to get some TPs cut and sent out but if they dont get signed right away it can be disheartening for them to do it again. just my opinion :) |
