shpongle - nothing lasts but nothing is lost

the new and the rumored last album by shpongle... in my opinion, best album of the year so far... an absolute fusion of anything and everything... lots of spanish guitar and flutes and general beautiful quirkiness...

stellar...

check it out!

Shpongle
Nothing Lasts...But Nothing Is Lost
Twisted

This Terrence McKenna dedicated album is being announced as the finale release from Simon Postford and Raja Ram...so already, if you've never listened to them, you've missed out on something very special. Listen to this and the first two Shpongle albums, that is if you'd like to have the greatest electronic experience of your life. Anyone you can find who has listened to these albums will back me up on this. It's cathartic.
5/5

I wrote this for the September 2005 issue of ION Magazine

This album has seen me through many a fantastic mushroom voyage. Now even hearing it sober gives me little shivers at certain parts. It's truly an awesome sonic journey.

Sphongle - Nothing Lasts But Nothing Is Lost - 2005 (Twisted)

---

First listen:

I turned it off in the middle of track 3...wondering wtf happened to Sphongle?

Second listen:

I noticed there's some stand-out tracks on this one. Really, not bad at all.

Third listen:

I kinda tripped out about everything...superb!

---

So, as you can see, this album was growing on me pretty fast. Actually there's only one track I don't care that much about. Well I don't skip Levitation Nation anymore in the meanwhile but I don't think it's very good either and somehow this song just doesn't fit on this album. Was it made for a Café Del Mar sampler or what? Huh, maybe it's the vocals...

Other than that, I think it's great stuff. Yeah, it's prolly even the best Sphongle cd so far!

Let me tell you about my fav tracks, some of this really shines!

Track 7 - schnitzled in the negev

Very very nice turn after 2:50 when the piano starts! They're actually mixing classical sounds with an almost dub sounding theme and it sounds great! Best song on the cd, this is fantastic!

Track 8 - ...but nothing is lost

I like the mixing in of the voice samples (...nothing lasts, everything is changing into something else...) while the song just keeps on tripping. This works out very nicely!

Tracks 9 and 10 - when shall I be free? / the stamen of the shaman

Woha, those 2 tracks have to be listened together (actually the whole album feels like one track!) - the first song has Indian influences, the second sounds almost like a salsa track to me. Again, the transition is flawlessly and before you even notice the changing theme you're already into the next track! Sphongle is really damn good at this...

Track 14 - invocation

It's the most ethereal song on the album and it's not surprising Sphongle added one like this, too. This track makes sense here, because the next one totally takes off!

Tracks 15 and 16 - molecular superstructure / turn up the silence

Molecular Superstructure is evolving perfectly! First it's very relaxed, tripping with playful female vocals and a dancing flute, then it takes off and they just add layers and noises and stuff to it and it won't stop. Listen to this closely, you'll find something new every time! Then there's the transition to Turn up the Silence, another awesome song!

Track 18 - connoisseur of hallucination

Haha, this is good! Tripped, weird, spacy, upbeat, fun! Yay!

Track 19 - the nebbish route

The last little earthquakes on the cd before it comes to a calm end with the outro. Love the rocky guitars in it! Yay!

---

Nothing Lasts But Nothing Is Lost is constantly evolving and changing, nothing will annoy you here. Also I think it was a wise decision to split this into 20 tracks although it feels like only one. You have to listen to this album non-stop to get it's full beauty, and damn, you better use headphones! It's one long chunk of music and one more reason why I never use that silly random (shuffle) button on my player...haha!

So, this is another great Sphongle cd! Get it while it's hot! Yay! :D

---

Nothing Lasts But Nothing Is Lost ist das neueste Work von Sphongle. Life must be a preparation for the transition to another dimension...yup, und mit diesem Album kann dann wohl nichts mehr schief gehen, haha! Enjoy! :D

---

Best tracks:

The Nebbish Route, Molecular Superstructure, Schnitzled in the Negev

(but you should really listen to the whole album at once!)

Similar Bands:

No idea...I think Sphongle is kinda unique! ;o)
