warped vinyl... cures?
Hi.
(My appologies if this has been questioned before here - I couldn't find anything on it.) I received a couple records today from Release, and upon opening the package I could tell immediatly that they were both warped. It's easily identifiable by holding the record up at eye level and looking across it, as well as being visibly warped while spinning. They're not terribly warped, but the needle certainly takes a rollercoaster ride. I'm assuming they were warped in the shipping process (I haven't had troubles with Release in the past), probably sitting in an awkward position in a truck or a shipping warehouse. I currently have them stacked at the bottom of 75 records, hoping that the weight will straighten 'em up. The buggers. Do you think that'll work? Do you have any other suggestions? How (if in fact at all) much does a warped record affect pitch? Any suggestions or experiences are appreciated... revert// |

I came up with the same idea!!, but never had tried it tho,I fuckin' just hate it when you already have heard a record and don't sample it before you buy it and it ends up being warped...right on the cue point for needle hopping action...argh, I hate that. I've always wondered if it would mess up the grooves in the record....that part kinda worries me and makes me hesistant of doing it....

This method should work but instead of leaving it in the sun .... get 8 coffee mugs about the same size and weight .4 on the bottom on each side of the glass to keep it off the floor and 4 mugs The same size and weight on top evenly spaced .then apply gentle heat evenly on both sides with a hair dryer but not to hot as you dont want to melt the wax. never tried this but i think its your best bet if the wax is not playing good luck :) |
