Essential Mixes
i thought this would be a good thread to post what essential mixes you have and some of your favs, then people can do some trading!
ones i have: Andy C - 2005 Mylo - ??? (forgot to add this one, one of my favs) Daft Punk - 1997 Deep Dish - ??? Fatboy Slim - 1996 Krafty Kuts - 2005 Portishead - 1995 Sander Kleinenberg and Seb Fontaine - 2002 Sander Kleinenberg - 2003 Scratch Perverts - 2004 (i think) Timo Maas - 2004 Stanton Warriors - 2004 i have lots of other mixes as well, but those are the 'essential mixes' watcha'll got? First of all, I'm gonna point everybody to themixingbowl.org
They've got torrents for just about every EM you'd care to have. Currently in my collection I have: Adam Freeland 2003.11.05 (that might be 2002, since Tong talks about stuff "lined up for 2003" in the intro) It's a good solid mix of really choice tunes. Only thing is, half the songs are by Evil Nine, and Freeland hasn't really changed his set much at all in the last 2 years. He played practically all the same tracks at Shambles last year. And I really fucking hate his Nirvana remix. The Seven Nation Army one ain't so bad, and I love We Want Your Soul... The Jaydee mashup is fucking choice too. He could have picked a better Rage song. Evil Nine 2005.3.20 Gooooooood Breeeeeeeeaks. Starts off a bit slow, but picks up by about the half-hour mark. Solid tracks throughout. Tom Middleton 2005.5.15 In all the Star Wars pre-hype, even EM jumped on. Check for the Cantina/Disco Infiltrator mash, and I was pretty pleased with the Flat Beat mix into Alter Ego. Interspersed through the whole thing with a bunch of Star Wars samples... in fact the opening is a little synopsis of A New Hope... fucking enjoyed that one. Mylo 2005.4.10 BEST EM EVAR!!!! Well, okay, I've only heard a few... but this stuff is right up my alley. Brash breaks synths flying around all over the place with solid House beats. Electroclash at its finest. Mylo's tracks (Drop The Pressure, Destroy Rock & Roll) are off the hook, and... oh man... That Vitalic track in there is fucking wicked. Coerced me to check out Vitalic's whole album (pretty good, actually), as well as go through Mylo's album too. I don't like Destroy Rock & Roll as a single that much, but the Tom Neville remix he used is tight. Radio Soulwax 2005.1.02 Okay, maybe I spoke too soon about best EM evar. Soulwax are up to their regular tricks here, giving us some ridiculously awesome mashups and electro-y goodness all over. I'm loving the use of Queens of the Stone Age (even though it's short), the Human Resource/808 State mashup, The 99 problems one (christ, name a single mashup name amongst names that hasn't used Jay-Z at some point), the rant Puffy goes on at about the 30-minute mark about 15 minute versions of records.... The list goes on and frikkin' on.... 60 GODDAMN TRACKS! And I like what they did with the Thin White Duke remix of Just Let Go by Fischerspooner.... Where they cut out all the verses. Kinda makes me wanna get a second copy of that record so I can figure out how to beat juggle that mix up...

mixingbowl.org is where i get all my mixes now. i forgot to add mylo to my list. that has to be one of my favourites i've ever heard as well. just damn good music. you'd like celebrities club on tuesdays, they play a lot of sweet electro house on there, too.

I actually got to catch Diplo at Celeb's on May 10th right after the LCD Soundsystem/MIA/Diplo show at the Commodore. He did a mashup with Walk Like An Egyptian that was pretty good.
Big Trouble Wednesdays at Lotus for further Electroclash/mashup action, too. I remember when this stuff started getting popular in like 2002 or so, nobody in Van was doing much with it despite its popularity everywhere else in the world. Nowadays the stuff's still popular but it's taken a different form it seems. But yeah... all these mashup types throwing all this stuff into the electroclash pile is making for an interesting mix of sounds. First the House kids jumped on it, then the breaks kids, then the Indie Rockers, now it seems Hip-Hop's making an appearance (Martini Bros, Louder Than A Bomb, etc.).... I'm blaming the mashup djs for that one. If you liked the Mylo mix check out the Radio Soulwax one. A couple of the same artists (Tiga, Linus Loves, etc.) but definately crazier, IMO. Better than any of their As Heard On Radio Soulwax ones, IMO. Fuck. THEY PUT PRIMUS IN IT! Granted, it's not much (Mashing up Too Many Puppies to say 2 Many DJs) but PRIMUS!!!!!!!
