Good cheap monitor speakers?
Looking for a pair of good cheap quality monitors. Anyone know which brands are better than others? Nothing too major league, something that is desktop (no more than, 18" in length?) Fuck, i don't even know the 'lingo'.. anyways..
Cheap as in, $250/pair? Used? Maybe? /monitor newbie //any input would be great :) |

I hear beringer truths and events mentioned a lot when talking about cheaper monitors. Spirit Absolute Zero's are also budget and Subfocus uses them, so they can't be all that bad haha. The best advice people will give you is to goto the store and bring a CD you listen to all the time and try out the different budget monitors to see how you like the stereo image they create. Also proper room acoustics and isolation methods can make a BIG difference after you buy your monitors.

Krk makes some very good and reasonably priced near field monitors. I personally use Yamaha NS-10's, but they aren't in production any more. In any case, I'd do some pretty serious research before you invest in anything, it's important to get something that will be fairly representative of what you music really sounds like, and this can be difficult to find in cheaper monitors. Oh, and I don't recommend the Tannoys, not a fan of thier stuff for the most part.

i would recommend getting some mid range speakers, like mentioned the events tr 6 or tr 8 are wicked sounding for your dollar. I just picked up the ASP 8s and they are lovely. ;)
