Helping out a breaks & d&b newbie...
Okay, so, my girlfriend is a bit of a breaks & d&b newbie. And I want to show her some really good music. Now, I know my shit, sort of, so I made her a mix cd.
Keep in mind she doesn't really like heavy techy shit, so I made her kind of a mellow funky mix cd.. track listing as follows: Freestylers - Policeman Skank DJ Fresh/Darrison - All that jazz Freestylers - Ruffneck Freestylers - Get Down Massive Sky FX - Shake ya body Deekline - Boom Blast Marky & XRS - LK Freestylers - Push Up Deekline - Outta Space Remix Roni Size - Brown Paper Bag Deekline - Bush Pig Deekline - Screetch SO, what i'm asking for is, any suggestions of more tracks I can show her ALONG THE LINES of the tracks above. Jazzy d&b, vocally d&b, maybe some more well known tracks? No techy shit please. As for breaks, newer funky stuff, nothing too florida (eg: faline, etc - see has lots of that already) and once again nothing to techy. Basically, anything really upbeat & funky, nothing to dark, vocals prefered, but nothing too cheesy, you know? Any help greatly appreciated.. And I don't want your opinion of the above tracks please, just some good suggestions of more music! |

Seriously, any chick would dig this mix. I love it and I am not the biggest dnb fan these days. Oh, and for a mix suggestion, I'd definitely reccomend some of teebee's girlier stuff (nice and deep, not tooo pussy) like silent depths, dimensional entity, etc. for it. |

well, #1 - he specifically asked for non-techy dnb
i'll just re-print my analysis I made when the tune first came out: taken from nwdnb.bc.ca circa Jan 2004 Meh, decent tune - typical CD tight production, hella anthemy, catchy chorus, the synth stabs are kinda cheesy but I like it. It'll get the kids pumping their fists and barking and waving lighters or some such. However... It's the friggen lyrics that really get to me. Lets take a look: don't tell me what to do and who the fuck are you ok yea... whatever. Appeals to the teen-angst scene and all... jungle kids seem to be getting younger and younger nowadays anyway (as evidenced by the last dieselboy show)... who know's maybe dnb is becoming the next metal/grunge/industrial/whatever it is that teenagers listen to to piss off their parents music in NZ don't tell me what to play i'll say what I will say Right that's fine. Junglists are constantly trying to claim some sort of taste elitism in music or some shit and all so yea - it fits with the whole theme of teen-angst anthem or something don't tell me how to live (i think - can't really make it out) or what the fuck to wear yea yea more of the same old, same old. I'm beginning to think Tiki is a 14 year old boy writing in his journal about how much he hates his parents... ah misunderstood youth. i got my own ideas and i don't give a care ok wait one sec... i don't give a care??? What the fuck is this, grade school? I haven't heard the line "I don't give a care" since I was in like kindergarden - back when we were told that "damn" was a swear word. Couldn't he have come up with anything better? I mean hell, even if he said "I don't give a damn" or something it would work better - rhymes about as well a "ideas" and "care" (which is not at all). The lyrics as a whole are cheesy enough without having to include some taunt a 6-year old girl would say in a playground during recess. yeesh. "I don't give a care" indeed... Anyway, I just had to get that off my chest. Hopefully an instrumental will be released or something... -rant off |
