music and it's effect on the thought process
I've been listening to a lot of semi abstract downtempo/chill music lately and I've found myself thinking differently and in a more abstract way. It has inspired me to write, which I haven't done in years, and seems to have shaped my view of the world in that I find different meaning in everyday things.
I think that generally music shapes the thought process due to the lifestyle associated with it, be that hip-hop, rock or whatever, but to me this change seems completely unrelated to that. It also isn't necessarily while I'm listening to the music, but a change overall in the way I think about things. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? |

Definately some good points.
Change probably lies somewhere in the balance between internal process and external stimulus, and you're right, who's to say which holds more sway in an individual situation. In any case I would say music can be both a factor and facilitator, and if the change is positive then roll with it... |

I think a lot of it is the emotional atmosphere that music creates in the mind that stimulates different thought processes... so many of our perceptions on things are based on our emotions and if certain forms of music are shaping our emotion reactions they can change so much of our perception of things in general... even though I've always had a fundamental sense of spirituality, I think ambient music has done a lot to help my sense of spirituality mature into something more than just an itch in back of my mind... and maybe thats because ambient music provided a new emotional forum that I was unaware of at the time... it just opens you up to look at the world in a different light than say, teen angst music will let you see...
