Country music

It sucks right? That overproduced pap you hear on JR Country or CMT.. it's like fingernails on a chalkboard, but with sweet boots.

Is that really all it is?

Don't think so. Anyone who's heard Wilco's _AM_ has had a taste of country's true potential... but for a less "alternative/country" vibe, and more of a straight up roots vibe, you can't beat the Scud Mountain Boys.

This is one of those instances of discovering a band that you previously knew nothing about.. and learning that their career came and went years ago. Discography shows that _Massachussets_, the album I pulled off Soulseek, was pretty much their last effort, circa 1997...

It's always a weird deal when you learn of a band that's already had its time... In this instance I can't help but feel cheated, because the album is simply chalk full of soulful, heartfelt, laid back country music. I just can't get enough.

Had to express my appreciation for this group somewhere, and I figured this was a pretty good forum. If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to wing the album over. Otherwise, all I can say is... country music might just have a depth to it beyond the musical graveyard that is "New Country"

Country is awsome. I never truly appreciated and learned to enjoy it untill I was living in a small farm/hick town for a few months and it totaly makes for the perfect vibe in that inviroment. Anyways ive always had mad respect for Shania Twian and love her stuff, but other than the more pop country I totaly dig this one Australia country singer Keith Urban. I loved one track of his so much that I had to buy it before I left :p

IMO 9/10 of country = recycled blues riffs with a very awkward sounding singer. Maybe its just the southern accent, maybe its the hoser in them, who knows, all I know is, definately not my cup of tea, when my brother came back from Cali (where he was going to college), thats all he would listen to, so its not like I haven't heard A LOT of it, I guess living in a city for 22 years has given me no sort of basis to relate to it.

I still can't like new country for the life of me.

I've got mad love for old country though, there is something about it that was a lot more universal. Old country stars weren't perfect people either that went through some serious struggles in life..I have a hard time picturing that with a lot of people coming out of Nashville or smalltown America these days...

^ HAHAHAHAHA (response to Andrew) I was thinking the exact same thing. Classic judgement of country = Things to do: Have wife leave you, buy a pick-up, and procrastinate to get a job more... But in all fairness, its not all like that.

Depressing? I think what you may mean by that is the slow loungy kinda tempo. Personaly I find it really relaxing and chilled out. Usualy ppl out on the country live life pretty basic and easy going... which I think alot of city gowers seen as boring and not so full filling. Like I said if you spend some time in that enviroment country music really it's the spot. I figure the reason ppl listen to it in the city is becuase it totaly reminds you of the easy life style on the country.

I like this one country song that talks about eating friend chicken on the porch. I like how there are songs about the simple things in life.
