Exporting tracks to mp3 / issues?
When I put beats together with cubase, export it to mp3 (sounds fine on the comp) then try to play it in CD players.. it goes allllllllll whack / messed up. I noticed the same thing with beats my friend makes in pro tools.
What are you supposed to do to eliminate that? |

The level would depend on which software you used to make your files, such as Cubase. No doubt there are many controls in there to adjust levels.
Some software may not automatically adjust the level to prevent clipping. I had a similar experience with Traktor - the analog audio from my computer soundcard was fine but when I output the digital audio to a wav file and then a CD, it sounded harsh. It was because the digital level was a few db too high. I dropped the level and made a new CD and then it sounded OK. If you have an audio editor program, try loading your output file into it and see if it looks clipped on the graphic waveform display, if it is clipped you'll see many signal wave peaks are hitting the maximum level. That may not be the problem in your situation, but it's worth a quick check. |

You'll need 6db head room on you're original piece of audio once you are exporting to mp3.....keep in mind, no matter what, you're going to loose a lot of top and bottom end, the way to avoid that is bring down you're over all mix level down 6 db, and putting an anti aliasing filter on your audio to. Either a band pass filter set @ 20Khz on the high, and a 20 Hz on the bottom..... OR you can just use a low pass filter @ 20Khz, and a high pass filter @ 20hz....same thing basically. Hope that helps, I've had similar probs in the past, that usually fixes things up. Good luck!

Thanks guys I'll try the mixer levels
Rrrrrrg.. I reformatted and put cubase back in. Now when I open a new project it says something about my sample rate , using external synch .. ?? Now when I load audio files, sound doesn't work, can't manipulate the file etc I looked in the help but I can't seem to figure it out.. Any ideas? Its weird because I have reloaded the program twice and I did everything the same and it gave me this new error. |

try this set the output bitrate to match your session rate if its not the same and check in Device Setup go to your sound cards device driver and in your control panel make sure the clock is set to internal. or in (Cubase SX 3 Vst Audio Bay) it might be set to spdif or some other option by accident. Otherwise yeh i would say your clipping out and overwhelming the converters in your card. But you should see that on your mixer.

^^ Yeah exactly.....double check that your I/O settings are set to Word Clock instead of global.....This will set your audio card to sync to an internal clock w/ the desired sample rate, usually just switching to the ASIO device will do this automatically unless otherwise specified. Mind you each audio card is different, w/ the RME Hammerfall, that's usually the best way to re direct the signal....

I got everything sorted out wooo thanks guys
but..... i completely forgot how to time stretch audio blocks *i know theres "time stretch" in the audio process menu but it didn't look like the same thing i used to do*? i used to do something to the audio block that enabled me to drag the audio block left/right.. makin it slow down or speed up.. nice and simple. help again? |
