Willie Nelson
Neil Young (his country stuff -yes, he's done quite a bit) The Eagles (no, really!) Hank Williams Sr. A lot of the old crooners are quite good, actually. Country's kind of a funny style of music. Sometimes it just clicks (normally when you're feeling a bit blue) at the right time. The reputation it's gotten, mostly due to such acts like Garth Brooks and Billy Ray Cyrus (the trance equivilents would be Paul Oakenfold and Alice Deejay) seems to have given it quite the bad rap, and it just can't shake those stigmas, or doesn't want to because they are proven money makers. |

enlighten us man. I have yet to hear new good country, just because it isnt as accesible to me as new hip hop or new electronic music. I've heard some Wilco's stuff , none of the country stuff tho. Gonna have to check this shit out |

Frank Black from the Pixes released a country album not so long ago..
I dont usually bother with country, but Sykonee's dead on about the old crooners:) Especially on long drives through mountainous yonder.. Kinda makes me feel at home with the sheep. But i rarley listen to it. I gotta admit though, there's some bluegrass i like. I cant resist the uptempo twang and the Washboard..is just plain awesome. |

Scud Mountain Boys seminal album is "Massachusettes" Listen to those.. If you don't like them, country is probably not for you. There, consider yourself educated =P |

country music never took for me, i gave it a chance, i really did try but shania twain turned me off, big time. whenever i think of country all i think of is JUST her, and "come on over" "oh, oh, oh, come on over baby"...as i recite those lines a little bit of vomit has traveled up my esophogus.
but, to each his own, go turn on CMT and...good luck |

Old Steve Earl.... Copperhead Road is where it's at.
Old Garth Brooks is a fave of mine, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Prairie Oyster, Hank Sr, obviously Johnny Cash..... the old guys are where you want to go. Some of the newer country/rock is OK I guess...... |
