Audio Editing Software
I'm looking for a decent audio editing suite... I want to be able to save in ogg, wav, aiff, mp3, wma, ra, and so on... I dont do any fancy editing, i'm looking for something to cut huge wav's into smaller segments and convert those into one of the various formats. I have wavelab lite, but it sux and only handles wav's. Whatever happened to Sound Forge? Something similar still exist?

Audacity is the simplistic open-source version of soundforge. By default encodes to wav, ogg and flac but I know you can get a LAME plugin for mp3s, and if it doesn't by default aiff should be easy enough to get ahold of. wma might also be possible but finding something to encode RA that isn't made by real is a pain. |

You can still get Sound Forge (which is what I would recommend for basic audio editting). Go for Sound Forge 6, that's without question the best; Sony bought out Sonic Foundry after that version and thus (in my opinion) sound forge went down hill fast, terrible algorythms, doesn't process as quick, lots of unecessary features, over all sucks. So go for SF 6. If you want a program that does absolutely everything and anything you want in the realm of audio, Logic Audio (Platinum 5.0 for PC, Version 7 for MAC users)

I recommend Sound Forge 8. I don't see the big difference in sound quality and it loads pretty quick. You can download it for free at http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/dow...p2.asp?DID=559 or torrent it on torrentspy.com your choice. Goldwave.com has a free music editor and Cool edit works too. I usually do all my editing in Cubase SX, its fine has lots of features.
Ppl on the board are saying Sound Forge 6 is the way to go, well the ppl have spoken, I guess if you can find it, use it. Sony is good company, they made my laptop and my CD burner, so I can't complain. Last edited by P.A.R.T.Y; Nov 15, 05 at 09:34 AM. |
