mixing off the floor??

Well, after moving last week and getting rid of my beaten-up DJ stand, I've decided to build myself a new one. But... it's not finished.

So, I'll be doing my 2 hour radio show tomorrow night live from my bedroom floor! Has anyone else ever tried mixing off the floor? I gave it a try this evening, and it's not the most ideal spot. But you gotta do what you gotta do!

If you're looking for a good way to wind down your weekend, check out my show "house SOULutions" tomorrow night from 7-9 pm PST on www.scratchnspin.net. Tomorrow night should be good for a laugh :idiot:

If you're looking for some smoother house, check out my mix on www.waxdj.com/djs/916 or on www.thefreshpage.com

Flip is on a distinguished road
I've been mixing off the floor ever since I started, I actually prefer it. Especially when you're mixing for a few hours straight, I find this way is much easier on the back. Rather than bending down every time you wanna change records, this way you just reach next to you. I guess it's easy for me cause I'm short and closer to the floor as it is :)

Very interesting! I had no idea that people would actually prefer to mix on the ground! Who knew? As for the ol' back... I don't think it's going to like it, but we'll see. You're right tho Flip, bending down to pick up or sort thru records is a pain.

Mateo... you're calling my post a shameless promo? Aren't all promos shameless? Nothing wrong with combining a question and trying to attract some listeners is there? :keebler:

I thought it was kind of funny that the promo took up most of your thread almost as if you made the thread just to promote your radio show. There is nothing wrong with it really just an observation.

my theory is that flip is trying to make a short joke and it's not working.

I started mixing off the floor. If you want a little elevation, flipped upside-down milk crates work well.

It wasn't really until I got to my new place that the tables had an actual table to live on.

at first i had my decks on my homework decks, tried it for a while, it was too short, then i made my own table and customized it to my needs.

good luck on the floor, i never tried it but im guessing it will be harder to maneuver around everything. ill tune in.

i guess flip's humour went right over my head! Guess it wasn't that funny :)

I've gotta say, mixing on the floor is a pain in the ass... literally. I'm trying to sit cross-legged, but it's not comfortable. So now I'm on all fours (what a great visual image heh?) trying to mix. Can't do anything fancy though, cuz it's just ackward!

I need my deck stand back!

Excessive use of pillows becomes your friend.

You are human. you can afford soft cushy things to sit on.
