djs?
so why do you play the genre you do?
i personally like something about every genre, but i dont play them all cos either A) im not interested in the scene thats involved B) its no fun to mix. ive been playing basically nothing but dnb for like three months for two reasons: potent-ass double dropping, and juggling basslines. neither of these are as readily possible in any other genre. other thoughts? |

ehhh i think one reason I havent dropped money on a set of tables because I can't determine what genre i'd spend money in, and couldn't afford to do moer than one genre.
I think house (dirty styles) interest me moer with a hint of disco and funky....but then a mix of florida and funky breaks is another possibility. next year, im thinking house will be the expense.....and drain my bank account. |

i just like playing anything that really moves you
something that's so dope that it makes you wanna dance and for hip hop i just like dropping a sick beat, either a classic or somethin fresh no one's heard, and bust some cool scratching or juggling |

My sister got me into DNB. She would play aphrodite mixes and all the old jungle amen mashers. She got into it through raves in Victoria where Wood used to spin DNB. I loved the sounds but it didn't really hook me until years later when i got my hands on some Dieselboy mixes and Konflict's - beckoning descended on my subs, it was all over. I dug deeper and found all the early Ed rush & optical stuff and the whole Techstep shiz. Soon after that i stopped actively listening to other electronic and completely focused my attention on DNB. Lately i've been enjoying the future sounds of Influenza style breaks and the Grime and Dubstep wouldn't mind picking up some of that style.
The style of DNB i'm really into has heavily been influenced by ed rush & optical, konflict, tech itch, decoder, usual suspects, keaton, trace, black sun empire. I could go on for awhile but you get the picture. |

I would also like to dabble in some grime/dubstep bizzness. |

I mainly spin electrohouse/disco punk but can go anywhere really. Those are my main ones because that's honestly the best stuff I'm hearing come out of dance music in the last two years.
I'm also all over hip-hop a lot these days, as I have a lot of respect for hip-hop djs and I'm discovering the more I spin it, the more everything else kinda becomes easy. I want more industrial in my set but it's hard to find industrial vinyls these days. For now I'll keep to bringing my kmfdm cds in when I have access to CDJs. I'm big on rock too. Just because it ain't got a synth in it don't mean it's not danceable. hints of a bunch of other stuff. I even have a few trance records (and even fewer I'll actually play during a set), techno (forever ingrained in my soul), synthpop, funk, electro (need more actual electro), house, breaks, I have like 1 dnb record and a bunch of hip-hop and breaks that sound good on 45. Still a modest record collection, but I like it. |

Ive had the chance to DJ almost every genre from country, hip hop, classic rock, DnB, Breaks, trance, and house. They all have their moments and ways that make it fun. However my top 2 would have to be House and DnB.
Primarly I love mixing house, mostly becuase you can change the tone/style so much and mixing is far more longer and intence. With house it's so easy to escape into it liek yoru telling a story and play for hours and hours. Also its the one genre I find that feels good sober, drunk, or high and always puts a good feeling in you no matter were you are (work/car/resturant etc) DnB seems to be alot of fun to DJ too! I love cutting and switching back and forth from track to track. It's the one genre that really pumps me up and makes you sweat when spining. The only down fall I find is how dark and agressive alot of DnB/Jungle is. You have to be in the right mood to play it most of the time. |

edit. Plus...DnB can be cued up after 32 beats ( appox 22 seconds ) and mixing is more continuous in this genre....making Dj's actually look like they are doing something, other than a House Dj that stands around for like 5 mins in between mixes, haha Last edited by Toxxin Ephekt; Dec 07, 05 at 07:31 PM. |

Hell, in hiphop mixing, you can cue up tunes in less time. |

^ no shit....in Hip hop....you only need 8 beats to mix that shit... well....in DnB...it still manages to sound clean when cued quick...in house...you'll end up with too many clashing sounds when cued too quick.....don't you think? same goes with Trance...
