Caught the show in Calgary last weekend.
LOUD!!!!!! One of the loudest clubshows i've been to. A bit moody walkin in, trying to recognise anyone in the dim light, heh, but good turnout for a Sunday nite. AND it wasn't a sausage partay either. Gals were jumpin and gettin down too. Its interesting to notice the nuances in some of the tunes Knick was dropping - particularly for fans of seriously extreme electronic music.. power electronics, industrial noize, etc. I listen to some pretty noisy shit sometimes, often "unlistenable" heh. There were a couple tunes in Knick's set that pushed it.. reeeealllly pushed it. It was suprising to hear these elements in a "dnb set", cuz its not really what you'd expect, considering most dnb that's being marketed in the "scene" never really strays from the usual song & dance ya know? (that's including the dark shit too). For a noize fan, i certainly picked up on the references in the hardest stuff he played. Some of the break edits were bordering on twisted "breakcore" DHR territory, which is interesting to see a DnB CLUB dancefloor react to. I also learned that nite that Knick trades samples with a VERY GOOD breakcore producer / aquaintence of mine too (Producer Snafu - Severed Digit Recordings << played in Calgary the week before) That was kinda a suprise. Over all.. good nite out. And yeah, great look into some more extreme sounds you don't normally hear in a typical dnb set @ yer local club. I could have listened to the set forever << which kinda says something about me. haha. But I can take a beating.. sonic punishment. Sit back and let it consume you!! How 'ard are ya anyway? heh.
