new music store in Vancouver
hey all,
I just wanted to drop a line about a very special new music store that opened in our fair city recently and really needs your support. Please read this and spread the word to as many people as you can, because word of mouth is the best advertising and the best way we can all help support this local business. Remix Records opened recently on Granville St. (near Davie, across from Ginger 62). The store is ran by Jim Summers who was the buyer of electronica, import and singles section @ the former Virgin Mega store since they opened their doors back in 1996 until earlier in 2005 when they closed, and at Sam The Record Man prior to that. When HMV took over, they decided to reduce their focus on dance and electronica, reducing their CD selection to a minimum, as well as dropping vinyl all together, so Jim decided to quit and start a store that fills the gap left behind. So you should all support Remix Records by going down and spending your money because: a) This is a local business that cares about music, and you, unlike those corporate giants. b) This store's pricing is amazing on both CDs and vinyl (most records are priced at $11.99 or $12.99!!!!) and that should be reason alone for you all to go and shop there. Having been in this game for over a decade, Jim knows where to get the good deals. c) they carry tons of good music, from dance, electronica, even rock and pop. In finish, I want to say that anyone who has ever tried to run their own business knows how hard it is to start things up, specially in today's music market where a lot of people resort to downloading the music off the internet. Let's all go down to Remix Records at 1228 Granville today and help keep this local business alive! Check out the store's site for more info at http://www.remixrecords.ca . Also, if you want to be on the mailing list, email [email protected]. thanks for reading (and don't forget to pass this along) . -farshad |

/\ same here (about the CDs I found at both those places) and Jim was probably responsible for odering them! So go down there and say hello and check out the selection... for having been around just over a month, it is looking pretty good :-)

dabbler: just for the record, I am not affiliated with Remix Records in the business sense (Jim is just a friend). I am just helping him spread the word, seeing as he is single handedly trying to (as he put it) "be buyer, manager, sales clerk, processor, data entry person, accountant, shrink wrapper, janitor" :-) Yeah, running a business is super hard, let alone a music store, specially in this day and age... Jim really knows his shit and works hard, so I really hope this store sticks around for a while and does not go the way of the other 51 stores Todd mentioned :-)
Speaking of Todd, he must know a thing or two about running a music shop, eh? cause his store is the longest standing music store around (I think he opened it when I moved to Van in 1988ish). I have respect for that man. He is also a very interesting to talk to :-) I just wish the big Otis had not closed down... I used to find so many good tracks there, and also miss the $5 sales :-( -f. Yeah I walked in there a few times... seems like a sweet little place
you'll see flyers and tickets for St. Patrick's Night II and our other future events there, I already spoke to the person that runs that place and arranged for that... |

Oh yeah, and Jim is an awesome and friendly guy, so if there is something you want and they don't have, ask him to order it for you, cause he can get some seriously good deals through his connections... The more we shop there, the better the store will do and the better his selection and buying power will get. -f. |
