Some of these ain't half bad. It sounds a lot like electro to me. It really just makes you sound elitist trying to invent a name of a genre. It is like you think noboby else is doing that style. In reality, the electro sound is all the rage right now. Good music is good music no matter what you call it.

i didn't invent it, matt did....There is a certain formula that carpark follows, and it is live PA>>.so it IS kinda it's own subgenre...and you are right ..it IS a form of electro breaks/house...PLus all the kids come dressed in funny skid hats and plaid shirts to the shows...It's like a giant tailgate party!

If dj Hoola says Matt invented his own genre, and i think it is it's own genre, and 200 other kids say it is it's own genre, how is that elitist>>???

All music came from somewhere similar..house form disco, nuschool breaks from rap metal ect. We are having fun with it, and trying to share it with y'all...and you are calling me an elitist for trying to make something fun and creative happen...OK, I'l play in your little stagnant world and give you the benefit of the doubt, and say:

HEY LISITEN TO THIS FUNKY ELECTRO LIVE PA HOUSE BREAKIN ORIGINAL MUSIC

Better?

Carpark just came to be, people came to the last show dressed as skids at a tailgate party with no pre planning.... and as for similarity to electro:

Jorma's kid who is 4 can tell the diff between carpark tracks and other electro tracks, which i find amusing.

It's fun music and a fun event. You guys should come up n siphon some gas with us ;)

^^ you seem pretty hung up on labels. why even even use one?

"a rose by any other name would still smell as sweet"

edit: You've now added pretentious to your repetoire.

Are you guys kidding me? He's sharing some music, let it go. Why read so deep into the meaning or the intention? I haven't talk to Matt (AA) in 4 years but I can tell you being "Cool" or setting trends is his last concern. If these people all got down and partied trailer park style who cares but honestly it sounds like fun to me. Any Vancouver club night I go to could be just the same except we're all set on on it being "bling bling look at my $1000 outfit night." Anyway fuck the politics of dancing.

I have a repetoire >? Wow! I am honored FNK USERS!
You don't even know me to pass that sort of judgement... So thus i think you are just trying to make yourself look good somehow, by making others look bad for saying something that does not conform with what your opinion is on the subject of this thread.....which i might add is MUSIC>..not who is pretentious or who is an eltisit or what trends are cool.

I let it got the first few times he posted about declaring a new genre of music. Third time is the charm (or lack of charm on my part).

My mama always told me if you do not have something nice to say do not say anything at all...i haven;t called you any names, nor do i intend to. Definately lack of charm on your part

This is the second post on carpark..one in simply music and one in new and upcoming. My bad? Forums are for sharing info, and helping people....oh except this one of course, which seems to dwell on who can outwit or bring down the rest, and become KING OF THE POSTS all too often..

umm, i'm sorry but there are tons of people (myself incl) that will jump on a thread when it come across as elitist or pretentious. which it does. Like i said last time, the whole "genre" thing is really pretentious, and trying to make it stick is just gonna insure that it won't. a genre isn't a genre because one person does something that is not exactly the same as everyone else. if that were true; everyone has their own take on stuff, so does that mean we would all get to name our own style? lol

I think in a way most djs do have their own genre..yours being floaty melodic easy goin but danceable drum and bass. It's still drum and bass, but if you called it drum n float or whateva i wouldnt harp on you for it..cause what you write is YOURS.

If i liked it ..i would then say say so..which i did in your case, if i didn't i would keep my yap shut or say thanx for sharing but not my cup of tea.. i wouldn't say..you are an elitist for calling something that it isn't... even when you truly beleive in your minds eye that it is DRUM n FLoat..... carpark is CARPARK...there in NO OTHER

since i am a pretentious elitist....i will now say thanx guys for keeping this thread up high on the forum with your negativity, more ppl will pay attention to this thread now. We don't need to TRY to make Carpark stick...it is sticking by itself. People love it here, and thus you will be hearing/seeing it at many gigs this summer and of course shambhala-- sat midnite at beach.

Here is what AA had to say about it on the carpark forum........:

Sweet!
Here is my response to FNK's response.

Elitist? *blushes* Oh you flatterer. Now I am sure you meant
it as an insult, but it is a rather unfortunate choice of words. If
you mean that we consider ourselves the better or choice part
of a larger group who posses wealth, power, and prestige, you
couldn't be more wrong. By calling Suplex an elitist because he
shows enthusiasim for something, just goes to show your true
colours, by excluding him from whatever it is you think you are.

Hell, what we are doing is not even bourgeois. Carpark is
INCLUSIVE not exclusive. It is actually a response to the
pretensious snobbery that has come to dominate the electronic
music community. Isn't saying you are from Pound or Twisted or Husltin' Beats elitist? Can anybody join?

I'm not sure what aspect makes you uncomfortable
here. Is it the fact that we are doing something, or the fact that we
gave it a name? I suppose you like the current dominant cultural
paradigm, where musicans create music, and journalists give it a
name? We just took out the middle man.

>>Good music is good music<< I couldn't agree more. I'm not even
supposing that the music we are making is good. But people like it.
I'm sure when someone asks you want kind of music you play
( if you do play that is) you don't just say "Good Music". But rather,
you probably say; nu skool, proggressive, electro, or whatever it is
that you call what you play. Isn't that by your own admission elitist
and bullshit? What is the greater issue here? The assignment of
catagories to precieved types of music, isn't about to go away.

So
what is the harm in taking a pro-active and creative role in defining
what you do? You're just pissed cause we thought of it first. Whether
you like it or not Carpark is here. It's actually just a little harmless fun.
We are not taking ourselves seriously, perhaps you shouldn't either.
:-)
