Electronic Music Courses in Vancouver?
Im researching places that provide this kind of music course, so far this one seems really good - http://www.pacificav.com/audio/audio5.html
at Pacific Audio Visual Institute, but iv heard some bad reports on similar courses from friends in the uK. like , they where promised Macs with Reason in every class, yet they never got on a Mac or reason once the whole time they where there. iv heard a few storie like this. So im just wondering if anyone on here has or knows someone who has taken part in one of these Electronic music courses , and would they recomend it or do they know any places to stay well away from? Thanks :) |

meh personally I would just pickup gear and figure out things for myself. More of a better development and more comfortable grasp. Always learning new things as well and creating your own style. In the end its an accomplishment. Purchasing equipment can sometimes be scary especially when your just getting into producing and quite frankly you don't know how your going to use it and what you are going to use it for. But once when you educate yourself on how to use it then you will master it under your own understanding. Producing is unique. Fun as hell and original. Don't waste money on a course like this. Sure study music theory in general and take a course on that but this electronic music type course is a crock full of shit IMO.

I would have to agree...the amount of resources out there(pdf's, forums, etc.) for each software is astounding. Unless you are going for a full diploma save yourself the money and invest it in some hardware/software. my 2 cent. J |

The Art Institute of Van, burnaby campus offers a 1 yr Electronic music production class. Its over priced and there quite a bit of post production. Its mainly for composers for film i think but teaches alot of useful things.
U also have access to all the gear and computers (all G5's) as well as the studios, which is great. And if ur really serious u can take the 2 yr. pro. recording arts diploma course, and learn pretty much everything about the audio world. (thats what im doing) but once again so overpriced!!! anyways hope this helped. feel free to pm me with any questions about the programs or courses or anything. ps. i was researching PAVI when i was going to start school. and i heard some bad things, remember to really ask alot of questions cause in the end at any school... they are making alot of money off of us. Jeet K was offering one-on-one production courses with Reason, Cubase, Live, etc a couple of years ago. I dunno if he still is, I'll look into it for you tho and let you know if he is...
If you want to learn a broad range of stuff so that you can get a job in a studio producing other folks' music, then a school that teaches a larger range is a better idea, and a classroom environment won't hurt you at all. If you're a musician trying to learn to produce music of your own, customized, intensive one-on-one classes are a much better way to learn. |
