I quite like Tom Waits..
I love all kinds of music, but after putting my mp3's on random, Tom Waits' Nighthawk Postcards came on, and I decided to play it through.. Never really payed attention to it before, but it's amazing! Kinda like lazy, drunken jazz. Maybe I'm just getting old?
Haven't been out to a jazz night for ages, but it's definitely a good laugh, in it's own way. Separate from the debauchery that comes with clubs, but very cozy.. I picture a smoky, laid back environment, dim lights and cocktails.. It's a good change from techno and electro! |

Tom Waits is highly regarded across the musical spectrum.
And I still can't figure out why... I am NOT a jazz fan. I've heard lots of it, and I don't like it. (group it along w/ opera and C&W) But Tom.... Tom, Tom, Tom... The guy can't sing worth shit! He always sounds like he's about to hack out a lung! His lyrics? He's been touted as being far more prolific than Morrison. His music? Well, he's got his own niche, doesn't he? To each, his own... Frosty (still confused @ the reverence) |

all valid points.. I listened to some of his albums after that and I'm not too impressed.. except for "singapore"... think thats a pretty cool track.. kinda like a quirky pirate jig..
but the live stuff is sweet.. his lyrics are poetic stories, quite hypnotising. |
