Any VJs in Vancouver?
just wondering if there are any Visual artists in Vancouver doing live visuals for clubs/raves etc.
there are a quite a few on the Scottish club scene, one in particular is Altronix, who sets up all the visual installations at our Camouflage club night.Go to www.club-camouflage.co.uk to check out some of his work. it seems most nights over here have some form of live visuals going on , is there as big a call for it at parties in Vancouver? We deffinently have Visual artist around Vancouver. Only working at major events and bigger club nights though. However now that the DVDJ's are out there are also a few DJ's in town like myself trying to get into this.
Keep in mind our club/party scene is far behind you in the UK... also if your looking to do visual arts here youll most likely be doing top 40's and hip hop nights if anything. |

have a look at our site to check out some of the instalations we've done www.club-camouflage.co.uk Id like to find like minded people that i can possibly work with on projects in Vancouver, as i am moving over on my own and will not have the help of the other people that are involved with my nights. and anyway im sure your scene isnt as far behind the UK as you think, if anything that might be a plus side. Thanks for the info :) |

When i was living in london (finsbury park area) with friends of my sis, one of the guys was this crazy experimental sights and soundcore kinda lad. Some of his visuals where really amazing. I always wondered why similiar collectives and such didnt thrive here in van (yet) Mind you I always seem to bump into some old website still up that was some sort or visauls/music crew from the early eighties right here in van??? Obviously im at the wrong parties!? :) One of the things that has be impressed is the scratching, warping, etc etc of dvds. I always assumed that audio and visuals where ripped, and then split to two seperate consoles/apparatus/rigs where they where fucked around with individually, but im hearing you can mess around with them at the same time off the same dvd?? |

We more than welcome you to bring what ever talet and experince you have!!! Infact we beg for it. What I mean by Vancouver being years behind... you may feel like a highschool student being put back in elementry. Just trying to give you the heads up. I believe we only have two clubs now (correct me if im wrong) that actualy have full screnes and a perminent set up that usuaes visuals on a nightly basis. Otherwise clubs only really call in visual lighting artist on special nights. Although we have a fair hand full of those each week. Ive been highly alerted about getting into DVDJing... "WELL WHERE YOU GONNA DO IT IN THIS CITY?" |

I've been intrigued by VJing ever since I saw the Chemical Brothers perform back in '99.
My interest in VJing has been revitalized by seeing acts like Coldcut and Mike Relm perform shows here recently. The visual aspect just adds so much more dimension to a show. Now I was a visual artist before I became a musician. So the idea of combining the two into one delicious package is quite inspiring. I would like to learn how to do VJing to incorporate with my own music. I've got a question for the cats who are already doing VJ work - What software do you use, which is the best? At the moment I'm more interested in midi controlled vj software rather than dvdj equipment. ( i aint rich enough to be dvdj quite yet :P) |

Im VERY particular about how my club should look and the vibe it gives off to people, I guess this comes from seeing lots of nights in glasgow being let down by the lack of effort that has been put into venues with massive potential. |

Even if your scene is a bit behind, to me that just seems like there is potential to push things forward and do something different. As for geting into DVDJing, if i was you id completely ignore anyone who hits out with pessimistic comments like that, and just go for it! you will be doing something different from your standard dj. Ok it will be harder to set up shows as you'll need screens, projectors etc, but to be honest your going to spent ALOT of time in the studio puting an audio/visual set together , so would you really want to play that same set at lots of small shows you would normally dj at, or would you rather set up something a bit special to show case you new work? If someone handed me an Audio/Visual demo dvd, and i liked it enough to want to put them on, id make sure everything was set up. |

I'm playing around with adding visuals to my liveshows too, but I have yet to see any advantage whatsoever from a DVDJ over, say, a laptop running Arkaos VJ. |

oh btw dangamouse, didn’t really give much of an explanation with that link.. Lace has been doing visual live PA's in B.C. for years now, he pioneered his own system for it, ive seen him quite a few times back in the day and more recently a couple years ago, if you are looking at doing a night with visual live pa artists, he is defiantly the guy you want to contact, as well here is rich-e-rich's e-mail addy, [email protected] he is the godfather of the Fractal Forest.. Pretty much the dopest musical and visual experience on the planet.
