So I have a MIDI Controller, now what?

about a year ago I bought a M-Audio Evolution MK-449C (looks like a Oxygen that ate a sammich and grew to 4 octaves) I got to play with it for about a week before I packed it up and moved, then started a new job which quickly turned into a monster which devoured all of my disposable time... so now that I've been able to able to curb the beast I've unpacked the glorious MiDi controller...

I've toyed around in Vaz Modular a lot with it, but I know it's capable of doing a LOT more.

Does anybody have any good primers on MIDI controllers and soft synths to help me get back into the groove (pun intended)?

not sure exactly what you're asking.. but I just wire mine into cubase/battery and assign the keys to VST instruments and / or audio samples.

ya I got the edirol pcr m30 and the m-audio trigger finger ..... should of gotten the bigger pcr model though :\ But ya with a midi controller you can do so many things that you never thought was possible in certain programs such as reason... My next toy is the Evolution UC-33 to which I will be purchasing soon!

I use mine with my recording/producing software Orion Platinum and Reason.
and I also use them with Traktor 3.

i used to have the oxy 8 wich i sold to scue...

basically in each software app your using go into something like midi preferences or midi set up.

then you want to look for something called a midi map so you can programe the software parameters to a specific knob on your controller.

most apps let you simply right click on the virtual fade and then program your midi movements in real time.

...now i use a oldschool miditech controller. thats all i need cause im mostly a pro tools guy editing and mixing wav.s
