Multitrack Recording Programs

I've been using Adobe Audition 2.0 for quite some time now, but I'm wondering what the alternatives are?

The only reason I am seeking an alternative is because Audition is quite heavy on the CPU especially while using rack-effects.

I was looking into Sonar but don't know exactly how dedicated it is to recording and mastering since most of the highlights discuss loop and soft synth functionality.

Any help? Thanks much.

There are tonnes - it just depends what you're trying to do.

If you're trying to record a bunch of sources and then edit the hell out of them (ie, recording a live band, multiple takes live, then arrange into a finished track), you're better off with something like Protools, Sonar, Logic, Cubase, etc.

If you're trying to record a few sources as a final recording (ie recording a DJ demo off vinyl and CDJ's or something), Wavelab is a good choice.

Overall, I recommend Ableton Live, as it is very easy to learn, intuitive, and flexible enough to do pretty much anything you want it to.

dude i think pro tools is your best bet.

reason why is cause i know your a reason user. reason is distributed by maudio. maudio is a part of avid. avid distributes protools.

with that chain your garunteed seamless interation and support.

abelton live is awsome. but if you want to seriously record and edit wav.s the you should really really learn some chops in pro tools.

it will also help you if you decide to take audio pro. cause PT is the defacto program to use. weather it be straight audio or post production.

I recommend synpase orion platinum 6.
Its all I use now, besides sound forge and sometimes reason rewired.

I think its a very underrated program. The workflow is easier and setup better than any recording/production app i've tried so far.

giver a shot
