My tables are picking up alot of background noise and feedback from my speakers...
EG: I place down a glass of water on table, and i can hear the THUD through the speakers.... what can i do about this? I've seen Big fluffy blocks placed under tables at parties, does this work well? Where can i pick this stuff up? etc.. Thx in advance Kenny |

ninewells - throughnoise
Turntables are supposed to absorb a certain amount of noise from the table itself. (hence the rubber shocked feet) The needles are also supposed to minimize this kind of noise. If you're hearing an almost crystal clear reproduction of the glass touching the table and not just a little thump it could be one of these things.
Your problem is this: 1. Your turntables, like Ninjaboy said, could use a little insulation between themselves and the table. Foam works but if its too thick can cause your turntable to be bouncy or rocky. (note: bad for records when needle scrapes from one side to other) A fire- or moving- blanket or something of a really thick material like mill felt is better than foam. 2. Your tonearm could be too tight at the base. They're supposed to be insulated from this kind of thing. Somtimes the padding under the tonearm base wears out from too much vibration. This is wayyy beyond fixing over an F&K post and if its you're problem its unlikely you'll fix it ever. 3. Your needles are transferring noise. An awesome needle (like an ortophon gold or high end stanton) is designed to only transfer the maximum amount of sound from the side to side motions as on the record. Yours is transferring up and down (ie glass on table). Turntables arent supposed to do this under normal circumstances. Usually people put a moving blanket under the table at a rave or club, but that's hardly normal circumstances - unless at your house or studio you're used to 500-1000 people jumping up and down on the floor. Try swapping your headshells from one table to the other see if your problem follows. If its one table maybe your cartridge is hooped. If its both tables maybe they're both fucked. Try another cartridge and stylus. If you dont have the money for that - use a moving blanket under the decks. LOL |

I have the Stanton 520SKs and I got a bad cartridge that transferred everything. It even had an electric hummmmmmm. I took them back and got a new pair and the problem was solved.
