"I thought by logic almost all garage is considered, NYC garage..."
that's like saying all house is considered chicago house.. hardly. classic garage is a lot like classic house except it's more steeped in disco and is less bass-heavy. there are sung lyrics in virtually all true classic NYC-style garage tracks. you all know that frankie knuckles gave us house. larry levan gave us garage. in fact knuckles was larry levan's protege during the mid 1970's.. taught him how to spin. if you like classic garage (which is very different from such bastardizations as speed or two-step garage) then look for: larry levan of course masters at work/little louie vega the kings of tomorrow/sandy rivera francois k (sometimes goes by francois kevorkian) joe claussell danny rampling and if you like classic garage then you're sure to love classic deep house. true deep house is not slow, instrumental stuff as many seem to think but rather discoey vocally stuff... so keep an eye out |
