Kelly Ellard Has 2 More Years
At a beach party in a heritage park near Craigflower Bridge on Nov.14, 1997, several teens beat Reena Virk. Kelly Ellard and Warren Gowatski were found guilty of second-degree murder.
Gowatski is on unescorted temporary passes from prison, mainly because he showed remorse and cleaned up his act while in prison. Even Virk's family support him. Yet because Ellard has never shown remorse, we've had to endure 3 trials. Regarding Crown witnesses, we have NC and MP who might have been more violent than Ellard towards Virk but may have agreed to finger Ellard to get less jail time. Odds are, they were let off because they would make juvenile detention too chaotic. One of them had seen one of her parents murdered, and may have had kids since 1997, god protect them. The other is so psychotic she thinks she's part of some crime gang. As well, Josephine, the girl who started it all, walked away. It was her addressbook Reena purportedly stole. Today, she is a stripper and lapdancer. Returning to Ellard, she's been violent in jail, and uses all sorts of drugs she can get her hands on. Definitely, she needs to be in drug rehabilitation with therapy. I myself do not feel that after she's out in 2009 she should face probation with her stepfather, mother and grandmother. None of them paid much attention to her prior to 1997 when her life was spiraling out of control -- mainly due to too much drugs, probably in reaction to her dad and mom divorcing. Like, who was Mr. Ellard? Oh wait, her mom divorced him and married the soccer hero George Pakos. This guy is so wealthy he has a nice house in View Royal and in Saanich within 5 kilometres of each other. Hopefully she is taking anger management courses and undergoing some drug rehabilitation now. Why? Because when she gets out, she is at risk to abuse drugs and drink if she returns to Victoria. She has 2 more years to straighten out her life i.e. get addictions counselling and take an anger management course. This lady definitely has a substance abuse disorder. She's definitely up for appeal. Convicted killer Kelly Ellard will appeal murder conviction Last edited by radha; Apr 27, 07 at 12:39 PM. |

I was gonna write a letter to George Pakos, her step-father, but am afraid he'd send a couple soccer players after me.:worried:
So do I write him c/o of his soccer club? Seriously, let Reena Virk's maternal grandparents be the guide to how to deal with Ellard: Quote:

Here's a rehash of the three trials: KELLY ELLARD
A recommended book is Under the Bridge by Rebecca Godfrey Under the Bridge is also a song by Red Hot Chili Peppers, in which one of the members of the band recalls his drug addiction, recorded circa 1992. YouTube - Under the Bridge |

Originally she was given 5-years, but the two girls who she says went with Warren, possibly NC and MP, got less time for fingering her.
However, she lied about breaking Reena's arms. But in the third trial she was given 7 years mainly because of her conduct before and during the trial. Had she not drank with that pregnant lady in New Westminster and precipitated the beating of that 58 yr old woman, her bail would not have been revoked. Both NC and MP were given less time than Warren or Kelly, which is understandable since one of them witnessed the death of one of her parents and violence in her family home, while the other girl is probably paranoid schizophrenic and has this delusion where she is supposed to be a gangmember & has a kid. God protect that kid. Last edited by radha; Apr 27, 07 at 06:40 PM. |

After Ellard finishes Grade 12, she should work on her drug rehabilitation, and undergo therapy on the root of her anger management challenges. While in juvenile detention, she tried to behave apppropriately but threatened to go psycho when convicted. Hopefully, she's getting the help (counselling) and finished her high school. IMHO placing her in the custody of her parents will not work towards her rehabilitation since she still has no remorse for her part in the assault and murder of Virk. |

That is crap it is the same thing as the guy gettin a reduced term because he is native and had parental issues. IMO and this is just my opinion if you are going to take a life then you took a fucking life you should face a maximum and stiff penalty. Bring back Death Row I'm tired of murders walking free after 12 years. |

So were NC and MP, and both these girls are free. IMHO Kelly would be looking for them when she's freed unless she gets counselling for the anger & abstains from the hard drugs she gets in prison. More background on Reena Virk: PWAC Victoria: Sid Tafler, Writing Sample |

Recently, Jennifer Johnny got better than this, where she basically lived on the street for months before she killed two white males, first for $20, and second, for enough money to buy alcohol up in Salmon Arm. The Ministry of Children and Family Services or whatever Premier Campbell calls them now are culpable in both cases Nor do I believe her parents' charge that Satan tempted her, and she consistently chose to sin against God. She wanted to be bad, sure enough, but didn't realize the consequences of her actions when she decided to party with a girl who'd been at her parents' house, and distracted her while that girl's two male friends stole from her parents. Like, hello? She didn't know those two boys stole fromher parents on Hallowe'en 1997, and she's hot to go to a party at the heritage park beside Craigflower Bridge?? That's either naive or too much of a "turn the other cheek" upbringing. It's been said that Reena's last words were: "I love you. Why are you doing this to me?" its not about whether the crime was right or wrong, its about how the individual is dealt with afterwards. we can lock him in a cell and throw away the key, or we can attempt to find the root cause of his actions and rehabilitate/reintegrate him back into society.
situations differ from case to case, and individuals should be held for their own actions, but there needs to be a balance |

Definitely Drug and/or Community Court is a better answer for at-risk kids than the current system.
But that's coming to Vancouver first. The View Royal municipality where Ellard grew up has 8,000 people and NO youth centre. The Saanich municipality has enough resources available. However, the Kiwanis youth centre Reena was placed in put her with at-risk kids. This is where the Ministry failed her. Also, the drug-awareness ppl tend to send a no-drugs message that isn't working with at-risk kids. The Grade 7-9 age group is a high risk for binge drinking and using hard drugs amongst girls. A better drug-awareness plan should include MODERATION for potential addicts, or at the least IMHO promoting marijuana as drug rehabilitation from hard drugs. Sadly though, the no-drugs ppl have the moral advantage of hysteria-mongering over moderation and marijuana. Though, in order for marijuana rehab to work, the former hard drug users should work for it. Last edited by radha; Apr 27, 07 at 03:20 PM. |

Reasoning for Toilet posting: I'm interested in the gritty legal cases that plague BC courts.
Kelly Marie Ellard's trail of trials is probably being funded by her famous stepfather George Pakos. This man is well-connected to a lot of well-to-do people in the Saanich peninsula, including his namesake George Pakos, a soccer player on the Island. |

If you read most of Kelly Ellard's 3 trials and vilification in the media, then you might come to the conclusion I keep coming to when I refresh myself about the events surrounding the beating death of Reena Virk.
However, these points are closer to the truth than the media can depict: Regarding whose addressbook Reena stole, that would be Josephine the stripper and lapdancer. She never hit Reena, and was the only person who never was a witness for either the defense or for the Crown. Yep, the girl who asked her gangster wannabe friends to teach Reena a lesson actually did not take part in beating her up. She even manipulated 7 girls to beat up Reena, and then went on to become a stripper. This means that the beating and subsequent death of Virk was not premeditated. Rather, it was a crime of passion, fueled by too much alcohol and a hell of a lot of gossip and rumours. As for Kelly Ellard's talk about what she did to Reena Virk, I can only concede that she may have hit Reena maybe once or twice. However, the six teenaged girls probably beat her pretty bad and it is more probable that Ellard's version of events regarding Reena's death occurred: Warren Glowatski and two young women followed Reena to the heritage park and severely beat her with at least one person holding her down until she drowned. It's unknown where Ellard was when Reena died, but she may have observed everything from across the Gorge. Why Ellard's story about killing Reena doesn't ring true: she claimed to have broken both Reena's arm. Neither of Reena's arms were broken. This implies that Ellard's story about how she killed Reena was a lie used to gain respect as a "crazy" girl, whose life was spiraling out of control due to substance use as a result of being in the upper-middle class version of a broken home, where her mother was sinking into an alcohol-fueled rich life, divorced from her father and married to Victoria's FIFA champ, George Pakos. So why did the Crown pursuing Kelly Ellard, forcing her through 3 murder trials? Well, the message is clear: never lie about your involvement in the murder of someone you hardly know. IMHO these aren't so much murder trials as they are warnings to crazy rich kids whose lives are out of control: don't front how tough you are lest we place you in prison to manufacture your worst nightmare: you as psychopathic killer. What's that you say? Kelly Ellard is guilty? Only if you believe the gossip and rumours in the media. What really went down in Nov 1997: Reena Virk, 14, is swarmed and beaten under a bridge in Saanich on Vancouver Island by a group of teenagers, consisting of at least 7 girls and one boy. Battered and bloodied, she manages to get up and stagger across the bridge toward a bus stop to make her way home. Three of the original attackers (Warren Glowatski, and two of the girls who got a year or less in exchange for collaborating with Glowatski to pin the blame on Ellard) drag her back and beat her again and leave her in Victoria's Gorge waterway. That's where police find her body eight days later. Witnesses later testified that one of the accused bragged that she had one foot on Virk's head and smoked a cigarette as Virk lay in the water. That accused is Kelly Ellard, and everything she said about assaulting and then drowning Virk is a lie. Therefore the Crown punished Ellard for lying and making herself out to be the murderer. The message is clear: pretend to be a crazy killer and lie about it, and you will get put in the State's factory for tomorrow's criminals. Any reports about Ellard's acting out & anger both on the stand and in prison is related to the easy access to substances such as cocaine in prison. In short, Ellard lied her way into being convicted of second-degree murder. This is a mockery of justice. Ellard admits punching Virk Last edited by radha; Apr 29, 07 at 02:51 PM. |

The BC government is also culpable in Reena Virk's murder since they placed her in the notorious Kiwanis youth facility for (abused) children.
Youth facilities like this are supposed to protect children, but actually they are places where children are exposed to more violence, more alcohol, more drugs, etc. That's why they're call at-risk youth. The government exposes them to risk by housing them together, or worse placing them in foster homes where they get more freedom (a joke compared to the supposed restrictions of a teenaged life). To be able to do as one pleases is the dream of most kids. Sadly though, this usually means getting drunk and getting high, hurting innocent people, getting placed in the #1 system for manufacturing criminals: Corrections Canada. It's not a place for rehabilitation since the real purpose of prison is to expose you to more drugs, more violence, and more madness. In Glowatski's case, it's turned him into a big liar regarding Ellard. My guess is, he's afraid of two very scary women who are free, one so psychotic she talks to herself a lot. Not that family life is any better, especially if your mom is a convicted murderer or drug user or "chemist" and her boyfriend sends you out to sell crack at age 8. I rememebr hearing about this and following this in one of my classes a few years ago.
It was such a messed up trial (all of them) and the fact Ellard keeps getting "off the hook" (which is really what it's coming down to) makes me sick. She should have her head held under water for 5 minutes, or however long it takes to have a smoke. I agree with bongman, bring back the death penalty and get these people out of prison so that people who actually have a chance of being rehabilitated can make a new start... |

To this day I have heard she completely denies any involvement.
I just want to say there's some incorrect information on here. There was a person there that night who had witnessed a parent's murder when she was 6 - but it was not one of the ringleaders - even in the book 'under the bridge' she barely gets a mention until she talked to the police. Obviously this person was involved in something atrocious - but is now a calm and quiet and pleasant and loving mother. You can't necessarily assume a group of 14 year olds who had emotional issues and just wanted to feel like they belonged, would actually have the same reasoning and personalities when they grow up. There are some people who are unable to understand empathy or conscience at all ages, that is just as much part of their DNA as their social situations. |

Were you there radha? Because I know someone who was - and there was only Kelly and Warren walking over that bridge after they killed Virk. It was Kelly who was dripping wet and confesed to some kid when asking for a cigarette (who then had to be dragged back to testify 3 times because she thinks there's still a way she won't have to deal with what she's done). Also - Kelly's since beat more people and even stabbed someone in prison with a pencil. Just sayin'
