OK well think of it this way....
1990 to about 1999 maybe even 2000, that was the years of when all the whiney punks were like "hey man punk is mainstream, those guys are sell outs, ur a poseur, dont kill my scene, emocore is for pussys, " there was the groups of punks who liked nofx, the whole fat wreck chords sound, all that stuff... and then there was the punks who only liked dead kennedys or operation ivy etc etc etc etc... and everyone bitched about it being mainstream , but now punk is more mainstream then ever... and the people who actually liked the music before, shrugged off what everyone said and still like the music to this day... Point is , who cares if things go "mainstream" in my opinion electronic music has been popular for a long long time, and has gone commercial in the last 13 years or so, but its impossible for anything NOT to be commercial in the capitalist society we live in... sure electronic music is popular, but thats better for people who love the music to get there production out there for people to hear, enjoy, and play, the commercialism justs allows for dj's/producers, to start there own labels, and do something they love...in my opinion its not truly mainstream until u got every person in ur class in high school banging there heads to breaks, etc etc etc and have someone like avril lavigne singing along with the beat, and u got dj's driving around in bentleys with phat platinum chains.... bitching about it is only gonna destroy it...so enjoy the music ...
