i know this thread is in jest, but i'm going to go off regardless.

fuck the emu's.
we have millions (billions?) of children in 3rd world countries starving each day while people go blow money on fake tits, nose jobs, face lifts and other various forms of cosmetic surgery to 'improve' or add to their own egoistic trip.
we have a rainforest disapearing by the day that in all likely hood, will not be around for our kids to witness.
we have 3rd world countries fighting over coffee beans and because "our god can kick your gods ass"
we have uneducated millions infected with H.I.V and other diseases dying in streets and alleys while joe and sue normal eat at mcdonalds and drink starbucks late's.
what about the different coloured skinned people killing eachother becuase of the BLOODY colour of each others skin!?
not just world issues, but national, provincial and municipal issues as well.
what about the mining and lumber towns crashing in economical ruin cuz of taxes and tariffs imposed by the usa?
what about feeding the homeless in your home town? will you offer your couch to a homeless person for the night?
what about needle exchange for the addicts and safe injection sights?
what about the road the health care system is heading, de-regulating to the point where sanitation and health standards are compromised?
How about police brutality in vancouver that rose over the summer, the inquiries?
our national debt, what can we do to eliminate that?
Fuck, stop externalizing right now, take a selfish step and deal with the issues of the individual.
what steps can you take to further help your life? what emotional and mental steps can you take to increase and multiply job, social, and economic succes for the future?
and SO much more

fuck the emu's, get your priorities straight.

^ NO - you presume humans are worth saving -- humans have destroyed this planet and are taking down the Emus with them

No deal - I don't buy your argument, why is saving mankind from their own big fat mess more important then saving the Emus?

Have you ever tried having an intellectual conversation with an emu? Or had an emu console you when you were feeling down?

How about hanging out and watching the game, or playing a game of pool with 'em or something to that effect?

You know what you need? You need to be trapped on a deserted island with a slue of emu, coconuts, and a tv. Enjoy your madness.

...

i thought i responded to this, but i guess not.

ya we've fucked up numerous times down the road, commited a lot of genicide, and fucked up our planet.

instead of dwelling on how we've fucked up in this world, how about looking at how we can improve upon the situation to make things better? lets scrap my whole other argument, and break it up like this: take $$$ and spend it in the preservation of a non-flying lice carrying bird or take that money and instead put it to use in your community helping the food bank or, salvation army or helping the less fortunate.

tough decision

^ yup it's tough

there are amillion and one causes in this world - each of which has a person who would pipe up that theirs is better then the others and why i should give my money to it

you have to pick your battles - right?
Neither one of us is being serious

we are also non-flying lice carrying and diease infested ...small in the grand scheme of things ...and if you want to put your money into saving the less fortunate
aren't emus in that category?

that's rather pompous if you ask me. I have friends, several which are severely below the poverty line. Not once have i seen them panhandle or ask for a handout.

dignity and pride do exist.
you don't have to give your $$$ to a damn person on this earth, that is your money.

we carry disease and lice and these magical non-flightless birds who shit and piss wherever don't?

so it seems the decision has come to this: save the stupid bird or assist my fellow brethren so they may achieve, because everyone, and i mean everyone has the potential to do better and achieve the best they can?

is a bird going to solve the problems which we have have created?
brothers and sisters any day of the year.

call it a battle of optimism, better yet, plur.
one be cynical and dwell in the mistakes and the failures, it's easier to bitch then take life into your own hands, or you can work with what you have and try to acheive better.

SO what are you doing to save your breathren?

You insinuated the birds aren't worth saving and used their flightlessness and lice as evidnce for said claim
which you can't because the same can be said for humans

And where did i claim your friends asked for handouts? I didn't - but you can't argue with the fact that there are agencies set up that do ask for money and those funds are supposedly channeled into programs etc to help people below the poverty line ( i say supposedly as i am not sure of all the inner workings of these agencies or programs)

dignity and pride do exist - no doubt about it, not sure what that has to do with emus or any cause that people should choose to support. there is choice to support any number of causes and again - just because someone feels their cause is better doesn't make it true - whether that be Greenpeace, Save the Whales, Foster Parents Plan, AIDS research, Amnesty International, SPCA or whatever

the point is helping whatever you believe in because there is no way you can monitarily or physically support them all.
Save the humans is a great cause , but what's the point in saving them if there is no planet for them to live on? Is destruction of species and vegetation simply a part of global evolution? Or is it the sign of global destruction and ultimatley the end of our time here? (devils advocate..)

Save the Emus is not my personal cause, i don't even know that they are in any imminent danger
this mock argument is good times (please don't buy emu oil)

Perhaps you can pick the next topic of disscussion??

But I do believe in many an endangered species cause

Humans can change what has been messed up, emu's can't.

i volunteer at the langley food bank, do fund raising for big brothers and sisters every now and then, and volunteer at douglas park rec center.

you're right in one aspect, im incappable of fixing the world by myself, im incapable of being able to feed every person and provide a roof to sleep under.

Spending time with children who may not have a brother, sister or parental role, the smile on their face, to see a kid laugh, these are just a couple of the things.
every kid deserves to be happy.

mankind is not a lost cause, wherever we have fucked up, look at the sheer beauty, the awe aspiring works of art, music, food, architecture, science (for better and worse), and virtually every other aspect mankind has touched.

Life is beautiful.

Jingles. finally we've agreed on something :)
claire - between school, work, friends, family, etc i feel my exra commitment to the things i love in life is adequate. that and i don't think my involvement (or lack there of) was ever the question at hand.
That, and from the way things are looking, chances are i'll be heading out with the world Youth Organization program this summer for the next year.

smile claire.
