yup, I do.
I think that social arrangements, and the power of 'the norm' are very real though - I'm not saying that those people WILL ever do anything. But just because social power is real doesnt mean it isn't constructed or illusory. Taken out of the social context, and given time to think or experience different things, people raised in a certain way can change. Last edited by -ff-; Jan 18, 05 at 06:37 PM. |

i think it would take generations of people being raised in different societies and then somehow reunited back on their native land... that would take at least a century... wum - now i'm positive you're in the closet... what ever you do, STAY IN THE CLOSET... |

Yeah, I dont think that you and I are actually really disagreeing here - I dont think I was that clear. What I was trying to get at was that humans (as a species) possess the inherrent capacity. I think socialization can certainly solidify people's conceptions of their sexuality in ways that are probably irreversable. But that is a product of social conditioning, not anything 'natural'. |

ok., i admit, after destroying wum on our first topic i got bored with the second.....it's tedious having a battle of wits with wum, i feel kind of like i'm beating up a blind kid who's in a wheelchair and has asthma.
regardless, i'm not going to try and argue immigration with wum, it pretty much boils down to the fact that i'm hoping for a world where tolerance and understanding of other cultures leads to a new era of harmony, whereas he fears the fact that the dilution of western culture will lead to it's demise (convienently ignoring the fact that "western" culture has had no problems cribbing the best points of eastern culture and vice versa since before we wrote things down). c'est la vie. |
